🏈 Our old pal Major Applewhite could be in some trouble...

This happened, what, 4 years back? Has this been publicized before or are they just now choosing to release it?

Either way, I think Major's a married man...

It did happen 4 years ago. He is married, and also had a daughter born in 2009.

Not sure why it is news again, but:

"Texas has called a special meeting of the board of regents for Sunday to discuss personnel matters, 'regarding legal issues concerning individual athletic personnel' and 'legal issues related to inappropriate relations between employees and students.'" Maybe more info has yet to be released?

Also, just found this.

Friday night's revelation by the University of Texas of assistant football coach Major Applewhite's affair with a student is directly related to the forced resignation last month of women's track and field coach Bev Kearney.

A person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports that a potential lawsuit by Kearney prompted Texas officials to inform the UT System Board of Regents of Applewhite's indiscretion, which occurred four years ago. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter.

From what I've read of Bev's story, she's a fighter. I don't know if she is the reason Applewhite's incident has suddenly made air time. I find it odd that UT of all places gave Kearney the option to resign or be terminated for this, considering that Austin is a very liberal area - I can't see Austin being hung up over same sex relationships at all.

I'd be curious to know how both relationships were reported. Telling someone 10 years after the fact could be the issue here, did Major come clean immediately?

Having a relationship with a subordinate is just flat out stupid, but it happens. How you deal with it could ultimately be the determining factor for how the University deals with you.

Kearney or her attorney may have caught wind of this with Applewhite and now have put their cards on the table. What is good for one should be good for the other. If she got canned, he should too. There shouldn't be a difference made because one was a same sex relationship.
