🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 ⛈ Our 2026 Weather / home projects thread.

That right there made more sense than anything I've read or seen on YT videos on the subject. WHICH IS A LOT. Everyone just assumes you know what the numbers mean.

The funny part is, I've got a garage full of some different stuff I've bought over the last 2-3 years but balked at applying. Some of it I know is just stuff that give nutrients to the soil. And I need that. But I also need about 10 different kinds of weeds to vanish without making the dog vanish with them.
Best thing to do is get a soil sample kit from your county extension office and send it off. Cost you about $10 and it'll tell you exactly what you need. If you need lime, fertilizer isn't gonna help much.

@Brandon Van de Graaff BTW, if you cut and spray this time of the year you'll get some results that confuse some people. The herbicide is sort of designed like food; plants eat it up. And, some take a quick growth spurt and end up having to be cut down again.

Dollarweed and Dicondra ... bet ya got 'em both. It takes a few shots.

I saw one at ACE for $10 the other day. I've never looked at the retail versions.

Clemson is $6; they send a kit.

Where are you again?

This time of the year you should see two kinds; poa annua is one you can't kill. It's a type of blue grass with small white seed heads. The heat will kill it soon. The rest of them should be broadleaf weeds. So, look for that, broad leaf weed control. It'll have pictures on it of dandelions and shit like that. It's good for now...loses it's punch when you get in the mid 80's and higher.

It's a three way mix. So, if you look at the chemicals you'll see three. Look for 2,4 D... (long word then salt.) Dicamba. And MCPA (long as name...look for the letters.)

Nitrogen (first number) needs warm soil to break down correctly...needs to be high 70's, low 80's for awhile to warm up: just like water temps.
Weed B Gone works very well in central Ala for broad leaf weeds

I have to make a trip to buy a small 8-10" tree saw. It's been at least a decade since I cut back the crepe myrtles; it'll be another before I do it again. One of those "cheap tool trips" is what I can't escape thinking: Harbor Freight kind of purchase.

I had a lawn company in Memphis in the late 80's, early 90's. The same chemicals we used then are used now ... changes in what the "sausage" was made from, but still called "sausage." 2,4 D is an example...thinking that was Dow Chemicals the EPA had their sights on at the time.

I'll do that. I know auburn offers that, and almost did it before with them, but I figured they'd send me some report that I couldn't decipher.

Ya come inside, grab a drink, sit down and grab the remote.

Let's see what the girls are doing. It's 2-2 against UArk, bottom 2nd, two outs, two strikes, and two runners in scoring position. They strand them. Geez. So much for enjoying this break. Let's check the men.

Up 4-1 against UK! Oh, two on with on out: 1st and 3rd. Can they get out of this? Cool, Still 4-1. The break isn't so bad after all.

I'm a little tired.

It's spring. Storms. It happens. Today, they are talking over severe possibilities this afternoon. Gusts, at times today, outside of these storms from 30-35 MPH.

The question of the morning falls here: is this the day I should be cutting trees back? What's a gusts going to do? It's just a few feet up on my 8', a 8" chain saw...

Famous last words

The TL;DR version reads "he didn't and has to buy some."
This is as good of a time and thread as anywhere to say this: @UAgrad93

I put in an order at Walmart; free delivery and all, right? I got a text a few minutes ago saying they were out of stock on the brand so I needed to reorder. No big deal...except it's almost 1 and today might be a stretch: tonight, no problem.

I was on the Home Depot site and decided to look at their bar oil Same price; different brand. No big deal. Except, free delivery there as well? Yeppers. I knew they had free delivery on some things but I didnt' consider it would be on something this small ($7.60.)

So, suggestion. IF you are working in the yard...might want to download their app. A LOT of neat things there. I like the "in store locator" a lot.

Now...

Just noticed they added an AI section to help you find what you need for a project. Now, I'm curious how it works.

At some point, don't you just have to break down and go the ten minutes to Home Depot and get it?
