🏈 OU football player Spencer Jones picked a fight against a guy with a decade of MMA training at an OU bar this past weekend.

I said it was uninformed and I even bolded it... I have shoved someone and gotten in a fight... I was being an asshole at the time. I've learned and grown up since then. Being 18-21 doesn't preclude you from being an asshole, even if you'll eventually grow out of it.

Really, my only point is that the fight was not worth the trouble that is going to come from it. It never is. He wasn't defending himself, he threw the punch. Yes, he could have been hit prior and yes he was shoved, but he had clear access to the door and could have left if he wanted to. If the guy jumps him trying to leave that's something completely different that what is shown on the video.

Now, I'm also not saying the guy that threw the punch wasn't within his rights... we don't know the details so that is a complete possibility. However, they are both dumbasses because of the issues that come POST fight. Lawsuits and Hospital bills. As I was always told crossing the road in a cross walk and told to look both ways first... "does it matter if your in the right if you're hit by a car and killed?"

When one of the few places to eat in Midtown Atlanta was Colony Square, we walked up there several times a week to eat at the food court. At the time, there was one pedestrian crosswalk on Peachtree that was not at an intersection. Cars supposed to stop for pedestrians, but it was in a curve and folks were driving fast, but that crosswalk was the quickest way to get to the feed bag. We had more than one close call, all agreed to "I had the right of way" as our epitaph and dubbed it the Margaret Mitchell Memorial Crosswalk.

Logie's on the Corner. #NOTadivebar I've a few memories there... 👯‍♀️

It reminds me of being on a Navy base when they had bars open and seeing so many "ladies" on the prowl. Insert OU football players and you've got the picture.

On the other hand I ran into one of their kickers the last time and ended up having some really old, and really good bourbon that night. I still don't know how he paid the rent on that house he was living in at the time. Should I have said "if he paid...?" Good kid it seemed.

The same night I saw what an offensive line can do to a wings special. Good lawd, amity.
Those were not ladies on the prowl. Great many are “salt water widows”.

If anything, this should really create some respect for those guys that do this for a living and take punches and kicks to the face from world class athletes (even with being trained to defend themselves). Sure, some get hurt, but you're not seeing many injuries like this. Some tough ass dudes.

I don’t hate to see folks fight. I used to fight for fun, for profit and just for the hell of it. I had one running buddy that at any given time we might stop on the side of the road and beat the hell out of each other because we were bored

folks who tell me they have never had their ass whipped I tell them they haven’t had enough fights. Fighting builds character, humility and confidence

I’m too old to fight in a non structured environment now but I will still throw down in controlled circumstances in the gym etc

Respect for being punched on purpose? I understand defending yourself. I don't understand willingly stepping into a roped-off area to exchange punches, kicks and wrestling moves.

Ha, someone is probably saying the same thing about you playing college football, or NFL football. Football players are starting to show just as bad as if not worse long term damage than fighters.

In football, you have a good chance of getting hit (depending on position). In MMA, you have a guarantee of getting hit. The only question is how many times.

Every player in football has an amazing "chance" at getting hit. Punters and kickers less frequently (we seen them take some of the more awkward hits), but every other player on the field gets hit every play. It's not a 100% guarantee like MMA, but a 99.99999999999% chance. Speedy Noil knew he was gonna get hit, just didn't know how hard.

QBs don't get hit on every play. WRs don't get hit on every play. DBs don't get hit on every play. These players could go several plays without getting touched.

I remember the Speedy Noil hit and the big debate of it was targeting or not. He wasn't a defenseless player. Of course, they've modified the targeting rules since then and it most likely would be today.
