I got shotgun! Oregon coach Cliff Kelly bristled in defense of his starting quarterback Tuesday after a Portland television station confirmed that Darron Thomas was riding shotgun in the high-speed traffic stop that landed star cornerback/kick returner Cliff Harris on indefinite suspension earlier this summer ā at least the third time Thomas has found himself watching from the passenger seat as a teammate is written up since his arrival at Oregon in 2008. "Darron Thomas is the leader of this football team," Kelly told reporters. "There is absolutely no question about it. He's as good as I've been around." As a result of the stop, Harris was charged with exceeding the speed limit in excess of 100 MPH and driving with a suspended license. He was not charged with possession of alcohol or a controlled substance, though the officer who made the stop suspected there was weed in the car and asked Harris straight up, "Who's got the marijuana?" Harris' reply: "We smoked it all." [Eugene Register Guard, The Oregonian, KATU News]
