šŸˆ One good reason: Alabama

Everyone thinks they have all the answers and reasons for why their team will win each year. But for me, it’s all about being objective and offering you my reasons why your team will excel and why it won’t. It’s a gift and curse, really. Well, I'm taking a page out of ACC blogger Heather Dinich's book and looking at one good reason why each team in the SEC will win and why each won't. Some teams will give their fan bases more hope to make 2012 a pretty darn good year, while some might have their followers a little more worried.

Everyone seems to have the same opinion. Good to great offense, but too many losses on defense and worries over experience and leadership.

Could everyone be wrong or have we gotten spoiled and expect too much?

Let's take a look at what Aschoff says here:

Why it won't: Too much defensive talent and leadership is gone.
It's not like Alabama doesn't have a lot of talent on defense, but there's no denying that this team lost a lot from last year's defense. Seven starters, including three first-round draft picks, are gone. Courtney Upshaw, Dont'a Hightower and Josh Chapman weren't just relied on for their playing ability. They were major leaders for this team, and that's something Saban has said he needs to see more of from this group.
That's fair. But, on the same end, if you look at 2010 (as mentioned below) two of those three were hurt. It's like I've mentioned repeatedly, INJURIES play as much—and in my opinion more—of a role in '10.

These defenders say they're motivated by the comparisons to 2010, but that group also didn't lack in talent. It did lack in the leadership department and that's currently a concern for this unit. Linebackers Nico Johnson, C.J. Mosley and Adrian Hubbard are guys who have to step up more and not just lead by example. Veteran safety Robert Lester will be counted on more and so will senior defensive linemen Jesse Williams and Damion Square.

I find it funny that he mentions Robert Lester is going to be "counted on more." A three year starter is now part of a question in terms of being reliable, one you have to look at as being able to handle "being counted on more?" Damion, in his fifth year of the program.

With Nico, CJ, and in a different way Adrian there are legit questions. Not in terms of experience or talent. CJ, as one example, has been in the rotation seeing significant playing time since his freshman year.

It's the "lacking in leadership" I have an issue with. It wasn't the guys starting that we had issues with. It was times where injuries came into play and we were relying on players that were truly green to the system for that leadership.

The secondary is also replacing three regular starters, which could be worrisome at times. The overall talent of this defense is still pretty solid and it'll still be tough to move against the Tide, but for this unit to avoid the mental mistakes that hurt Alabama's defense back in 2010, the maturity level and the leadership has to increase during fall camp.

Again, bringing in 2010 as a comparison. Again, not valid. Just as one example among many, our safeties were just as inexperienced in 2010 as the defensive backs—more so in fact. While Vinnie didn't register a start last year he played in every game. I've already mentioned Lester. Milliner started in six games and then we'll be looking at someone truly new in Belue.

What's going to be a must in our secondary is for Lester and Sunseri to do their jobs; a safety valve over the top in case a cornerback does commit a mental mistake. Considering both, I feel comfortable.

All of this is liable to get me on an LSU rant in a minute. They talk about the QB position being the key to their loss, and the key to their fall. But, why doesn't anyone actually call it like it was? That was a coaching mistake.

As a fan all I've ever asked for is Alabama to field a team that can compete for national championships. We have that.

I think Terry needs to read this book:

Oh Gawd.

Are you seriously trying to troll?

If so, I don't have any problems contacting Bank of America/ Merrill Lynch, you know...that place you're posting from.

I didn't think threats were tolerated on this site. Two-faced much? Guess the fan doesn't fall far from the coach. Have fun with your adorable little Alabama lovefest, TP. And I would still recommend getting a life. There's more than football, you know; although if you live in Alabama I'd probably have to reconsider that statement. My condolensces (duelling banjos playing in the background).

It's no threat.

It's a real simple process. If you want to discuss football, great! You're more than welcomed to hang around.

If you want to discuss English and proper spelling, let's start with condolences, or perhaps dueling. (Damn that Alabama education of mine.)

If you want to talk smack, go somewhere else.

You don't have to worry about me, TP - I never intended to hang around this 'Bama-fest. Just wanted to see what you all chatter about. I was taught to tell the truth, and as a consequence agree with everyone in the 49 states outside of Alabama and at least half of Alabama itself that Nick Saban is a lying rat. If you rally around him and support the team with him at the helm, then you're no better than he is. I find it deplorable that the "win at all costs" mentality has poisoned such a place as Alabama, one of the last bastions of integrity. Sad. I love college football, just wish it wasn't such a business these days. Adios.

You're terrible at trolling. Goodbye.

Truth? Truth you say?

"You wanted to see what all the chatter was about" so you took the time to register, add an avatar that you had to look up in the first place, then go to the point of find the .jpg of Shatner and the book, then to the trouble of posting it in a thread? I won't even mention the insinuations that come with your "dueling banjo" joke.

No sir. You came to see if you could ruffle any feathers. All you've managed to do is take a feather and tease a tickle bone.

If you choose to leave, so be it. Again, if you want to talk about football—the sport you claim to love—you are more than welcomed to stick around and do so. You're in my house so you'll have to change a few things; like your avatar.

But, like I said earlier and this is in no unequivocal terms. You are not going to litter this forum with smack talk. I would hope the education at Chapman, or Montgomery high school, out there on the left coast have left you with enough reading comprehension to understand exactly what I am telling you.

This "hiding behind a screen name" just hasn't worked out to well for you, has it?

1) I'm "more than welcomed" to stick around? *welcome*
2) Uh, way to change the subject. Saban? Liar? Anyone? Truth hurts, doesn't it.
3) "Take a feather and tease a tickle bone" - uh, what?! Keep your tickle fights to yourself.
4) I'm not familiar with Chapman or Montgomery high school. Come again?
5) "hiding behind a screen name" - not sure what that's all about. Seems to me most everybody on this forum uses a screen name.
6) I'm about 1,000 miles away from the ocean, so I'm not sure where "left coast" came from.
You're fighting a battle of wits unarmed, pal.

Dan.

I gave you the option of how you could be a part of our community. You chose to be a troll. Now, without further adieu.

Ouch. Been quite a while since I've seen a troll get owned this hard.

For someone telling another person they have no wits, he sure failed to realize that IP addresses are traceable.

I have to give him his due on one point. He caught me using a predicate adjective following the linking verb "are."

Damn, that Alabama education again. :lance:
