šŸˆ OK when can we start talking about......

My expectations for next season are 10 wins and a new years bowl (or some decent bowl; BCS bowl will be above my expectations). A good O. and a brand new D. will make things interesting.

Is this a good topic?

I felt the same way, but there are a lot of caveats to that. Our O should be downright sick. O-line pretty much in tact, with a seasoned QB. RB by committee and a good receiving corp. I too expect a similar season to 2010, but you never know. I think with the MNC title, we will be gunned for, much like we were in 2010. Remember the Arky game that year, and then SCjr catches up to us a few weeks later. It is hard to play at a high level week in and week out, especially when everyone is gunning to de-throne the previous years National Champion

Has anyone made up a theoretical depth chart including potential signees and possibly true frosh starters? It would be nice to see. I haven't followed recruiting much this season.

In my head, but not on paper.

I'd imagine we'll throw something together—as a guess—a few weeks or so before spring camp starts.

You got me thinking about this last night and this morning...so, just for the heck of it, I'm seeing something like this...

QB- AJ
RB- EL
LT- CK
LG- CM
C- BJ
RG- AS
RT- DJ
WR- DC
WR- KN
SLOT - DW / KB
H-BACK - HJ
TE- MW

Yes, I realize there are 12 slots there...it's a trip WR or doubt TE set. You make your pick.

DE- ES
NT- JW
DE- DS
LB- TD
LB- Mosley
LB- NJ
Jack- AH
CB -. DM
CB- TD
S- VS / HD ?
S- RL / VS ?

It's hard to say where/how the secondary is going to pan out.

^^ since im sure some will need to hunt up a roster to figure out the initials lol

I do agree with you. My "10 wins" includes the bowl game if that makes any difference. Even if we were to end up with only 8 wins, I will not be upset. This is going to be a rebuilding year and I have no problems giving slack. I do think that things will be different from 2010 in respect to the notion that nobody thinks we will repeat. Early polls (yes, I know it is annoying and very very very very pointless to talk about polls for next year; throw in one more very for good measure) don't have us in the top 5, but I think we start in the top 10. Since we are not expected to repeat or be as good, I think the target will be a little smaller(and could give some guys a little extra motivation, but not going to push this idea). LSU will have the big target in the SEC next season. I do think it will be a fun year to watch this new defense grow (knowing we are not going undefeated makes it easier to just watch and have fun even though we will drop a couple games). The year after however, I want another title run ;)

Because I'm one of the idiots that needs the full name, I'll quote this one. I had this question earlier, but I don't know if I got an answer. Just some "possible" answers. So the question is, do we have a guy that will step up and be the vocal leader for this defense? If so, who? I just wondered.

I can see Nico Johnson. But Ill say this....I wouldnt rule out Sunseri, he seems to know the game rather well.

I didn't say anyone that needed the full name was an idiot man lol

I could see CJ, Nico, or Lester stepping up and being that leader.

I agree CJ and Nico and Lester should be the leaders but sunseri has the leadership ability and knows the D pretty well too. I think Belue will get a lot of playing time as well in the secondary and in the return game.
As for freshman that will likely see some time i think Ragland and Collins will be the best bet to see the most time as freshman. Eddy Williams or Geno Smith may also see some playing time but one or both may also be redshirted. Im also looking for Fanning and Dickson to step up and take on a big role next year

On offense I like Carter and White to pick up the majority of catches left behind by Hanks and Maze. Norwood, Bell, Shinn, Slyve take your pick as the third receiver on the team. And dont forget the kid from Miami coming in as well. At RB its clear Lacy will be the starter but gets a bit fuzzy after that. Is Fowler a #2? Maybe so depending on how Hart returns from injury and how much of an impact TJY can have.

I do have a question about the OL. With Vlachos gone and Jones returning do we move Jones to center and plug in CJ at tackle or does Kelly get the nod at center?

I know you didn't call anyone any names. I called myself an idiot lol. I agree about about those guys. I think Nico is poised to take that spot, but it is just a question of "will he?". I worry about CJ because he has been injured a couple times now, but he could definitely be the guy by the way he plays. I hope Lester learned from Barron and will take that role for the secondary.

I know we have the talent and if we have someone step up to hold everyone accountable on the field, then I will have no worries about next years D. I do worry a little about the Michigan game (it should be good).

Barrett takes over at center and I believe Cyrus nails down the LT spot. As for Eddie Williams redshirting, I don''t think it will happen. He will more than likely move over to WR with the addition of Collins to the secondary. Been alot of chatter about that move.

Gah, look at that LB Corp. It's amazing looking at the amount of talent that we have lost to the NFL the last couple of years, including who we expect to lose this year....and next year the only thing we're going to REALLY lose is experience. We're gonna be rolling in the same amount of talent again in 2012.

I see Adrian Hubbard being a household name by season's end next year, while Nico and Mosley have a chance to be the next Rolando/Hightower type combination at LB.

Very early, but not unreasonable.

bamajt, I agree with you as well on the 10 wins. Granted in college football anything can happen, but just thinking about home/away and rosters/depth at other schools. I would say Arky and LSU are the best shots at beating us right now. Those are away and our 2 toughest opponents looking into the crystal ball. Who knows happens between now and then, but one thing is for sure. We get to claim the title of being defending NChamps until next year!!!!

Just as a guess...and this is one of the reasons I said earlier we'd wait until closer to spring ball before we'd put a chart up.

I can see this defense looking a lot like ours did in 2008. Substitute Lester for RoMac and we have our "play-caller" in the secondary.

The calls from the LB corps bear watching. While I would think Nico moves into DH's slot as to calling sets, I also think it's important to note that DePriest was running behind DH all season. He understands, or at least is beginning to, how our defense operates.

It's not really chatter, he's said so himself.
