Somebody straighten me out here. Somebody posted on here the other day about us having 8 NC's and they refered to the ncaa website. But i thought the nazis gave us credit for 17 NCs? How am i getting this confused?

I was a little annoyed Fowler had to say that is how many we “claim” to have and didn’t just say that is how many we have.

A lot of people like to pretend their was no college football before the AP and UPI came around. The only questionable claim in my mind is the 1941 season. But, then again we don't claim 1945 or 1966 which years we had as much of a claim as anyone. The NCAA also recognizes Alabama championships in 1962, 1967, and 1977 - which Alabama does not claim.

But the 8 ESPN refers to are since the major polls came about.
'61, '64, '65, '73, '78, '79, '92, '09

I keep preaching to folks that, before the AP poll, other criteria was used to decide a champion. Hard-headed sons-a-guns.
