Ohio State's Nick Bosa on Alabama's Nick Saban: "That's why Nick Saban's great because he's willing to put the team before one player," he said. "That's why he's one of the best coaches ever."

For all the talk about Central Florida and claiming a national championship, it's as if the Knights were ranked No. 5 and just missed the CFP Final Four cut.

That's not the case.

That distinction belongs to Urban Meyer's Ohio State Buckeyes.

Our colleagues at Cleveland.com did a piece this week, asking Ohio State players if the program is at the level to compete with Nick Saban's Crimson Tide.

"I watched the fourth quarter," OSU defensive tackle Dre'Mont Jones told Cleveland.com this week. "I hope they both lose, that's what I was thinking."

The sentiment is understandable. Ohio State - like in many of these cases - can, and did, make an argument for being one of the top four teams.

"We're there," running back J.K. Dobbins said. "We have the best coach, and we have the best players in the nation. So, we're there."

At the end of the day, the loss to Iowa was too much to overcome.

Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa was probably a bit more diplomatic about it.

"I think we're doing fine, but it's not what we want," Bosa explained. We're not sitting here saying we want to play USC in the Cotton Bowl. ...

"We want to be looked at as an Alabama or Clemson (from) a couple of years ago. We're trying to get to the top, not just top five."

Bosa watched the CFP national title game, a 26-23 overtime win by Alabama over Georgia.

"I know I definitely could have compete with their offensive lines," he said.

Check out the video of Bosa's interview below. He praises Saban for his decision to start Tua Tagovailoa in the second half of the title game.

"That's why Nick Saban's great because he's willing to put the team before one player," he said. "That's why he's one of the best coaches ever."

Um no JK, you're not there with Alabama. A long ways to go actually. Have to do some research, but we don't lose to mediocre teams. No clue why everyone thinks Clemson is in such rarified air, but Ohio State is above them.

JMTC and I am not sure it is worth 2 cents. OSU is normally loaded with talent so they are close to the top 4 year in and year out. What holds them back is their weak schedule and they lose games they should not. You can have a weak schedule but you have little or no room for error.

Not to lose by 30+ for sure.....
Meyer is a pretty dang good HC...i would have him in top 3 to 5...along with Nick, Dabo, and Peterson/ Fisher/penn states HC...
He is definitely sucking Saban fumes...though

Not sure why the buckeyes have feelings of inadequacy about Clemson, but whatever.

31-0 the last time these two teams met has a lot to do with the inadequacy felt by OSU. Clemson just made its third consecutive playoff appearance. OSU, in the last three years, has made one appearance.

I'll grant OSU has more history and tradition than Clemson. But, under the whole "what have you done for me lately" Clemson is a clear step above their program.

Yeah, I can see that after the 31-0 game. Do I think Clemson is 31 points better, no, I feel it was just a snowball affect and an onslaught that was just insurmountable. Clemson has made it three times, but has only won it once, like Ohio State. Ohio State has made it twice (beat us, and lost to Clemson), and won it once. But yes, it's definitely what have you done for me lately, because if you even use a ten year window Clemson gets its doors blown off by what Ohio State has accomplished.

On top of that, I'll tell you what else Bosa's done...Dabo has already negatively recruited against OSU (one story from a recruit last month). This is more fuel for Dabo's recruiting shtick.
