What yall thinkin on CUM and how quickly he can turn Ohio State back into a NC contender ? It will be interesting to watch, He has done well everywhere.....and Im thinking he will do well there.

Question is, what will the fans determine as successful? If OSU gets ran over the coals, much like Alabama, then they will experience their "down time" in about 2 years. Much like we will see the lack of depth at USC in the next 2-3 years. OSU is a program, much like Alabama and USC, that can rebound from the ass-raping that the NCAA will put on you. (On a side note, Alabama does not have a losing season if fRan stays after the 02 season, JMHO)

I think the Big 10 is only about 3 teams when OSU is good, that will pay big dividends when OSU comes off probation. While I think they will lack the depth to beat a Wisconsin and Michigan for a few years, they will have enough talent to keep a 9 win season easily. That will keep them in the media hoopla for most of the season.

He will do very well there simply because he can pull in the talent that nobody else in the league can pull... but just like Tressel's teams, he's gonna have his issues when he matches up against the BAMA's and LSU's come trophy time. If he's lucky enough to match up with an Oregon or Texas or some such equal or lesser value team, then I'd bet on him getting them another title.

One has to wonder though. Are they getting the Meyer that won 2 titles in tenure at Uf or are they getting the one that quit 2 times in a year? I bet you that Ohio State fans are praying for the former and not the latter!!!

I'm not sure the NCAA stuff is going to hurt him that much. We won last year with what amounted to scholarship reductions. He will immediately out-recruit everyone up there. Kids in that area that want SEC football but didn't get offers will flock to him.

He will be fine. He won't have to desk with losing Tebow, having Bama blow up their preordained title run and then watching a kid his recruited and let transfer blow up and become the best player in the country while his team wallows in mediocrity.

He won two titles with strong SEC teams and a freak of an offensive player. Unless Ohio State has the second coming of Saint Tebow I do not see a quick turnaround. We all saw what happened after Tebow left. And prior to that he didn't seem to stick around anywhere long enough to judge.

Braxton Miller might not be the second coming of Tebow, but he is a dang good QB, fits Urban's offense, and is way better than Chris Leake. Urban won a NC with Leake as a QB also, and that speaks volumns of his coaching ability imo.

True, but I am not sold on him. His gimmick offense has started to get figured out. It's not working for Mississippi State and it didn't work for UF post-Tebow. It might work for Ohio State for a couple of years and then the Big10 defenses will adjust much like the SEC did.

Meyer will be fine at Ohio State. He has a QB that fits his spread option offense to a tee in Miller. Kids still want to play for OSU who are from Ohio because it is one of the top 10 programs in college football. A lot will depend on what sanctions the NCAA puts on the Buckeyes and for how long.

I'm guessing his hiring is keeping Big 10 recruiters awake at night. He can go into just about any state in the midwest (except Michigan) and get everything he needs and most of what he wants. It will not take long for Ohio State to back on top of that weak league and back into the National Championship contention. Two seasons, tops.

You know, Brady Hoke—current Michigan HC—was their DL coach during their 1997 championship run. It almost reminds me of DuBose, BUT, Hoke did well as a head coach in California.

I suspect he'll have something to say about Meyer's "easy return" to the championship scene. You put the right man in place at Penn State and they'll be in this discussion as well.

This has me scratching my head and wondering more than any other hire out there. I have often wondered how programs like PSU, and FSU would do after the retirement of a legend. (See Bama early 80's) For some reason my gut tells me that PSU will not make a splash when they hire someone. After having been the shining beacon on the hill of all things right for 60 plus years, only to have that totally pissed away in about 3 days makes me think they are worried more about image and "saving face" as opposed to getting a proven winner in there.

I'm not saying you can't have both, but how many Nick Saban's/Urban Meyers are out there?

One of the guys I work with suggested a great hire for a program like PSU would be a guy like Herm Edwards. I can't say he's wrong. I'm guessing, and I haven't done a bit of research into it, they are headed after Golden. He's seems to be of the same caliber as ND's recent hiring of Kelly.
