🏈 Offensive Depth Chart - Pre-fall camp

I know.

There is no such thing as a depth chart at the University of Alabama. So, save your breath—in this case key strokes—and withhold any admonitions you may have for me this morning.

It's merely an educated guess.

We've compiled what we consider to be the depth chart, post-spring camp, for the Tide heading into fall camp (said to start August 4th for returning players.) As example, in our X receiver position Duron will likely fill the spot occupied by Norwood when the season starts.

It depends on how the LT position ends up in my eyes. And, of course, injuries. I'm not saying I don't think there could be a depth chart move. There hasn't been one yet and I certainly don't see Shepherd giving up his back-up role without a fight.

Much like this group was under Pendry, there is a lot of shuffling in camps. So, actually narrowing down how the two deep is going to run from Kent State all the way to Auburn is any mans guess as of this point.

QUESTION: Where are we weakest? If we lose an Offensive starter, which position is the one that would cause us the most trouble?

Fun questions - in a scary way.

QB -- I first thought that QB would be our strongest because our #2 and #1 are so even, but then I thought that our having 2-to-find-one was the only reason this was not a serious concern.
RB -- Lacy is a fine running back, but he would not be listed in the top half-dozen in the SEC. TR being TR will draw a lot of heat off the young QB and a WR troup waiting to break out of Julio's shadows.
LT -- If Jones plays RG, then LT may never gel this season. But with Jones at RG we may be able to survive this. If Jones is the starter that we lose, then we are down to #2s at two spots (Can Barrett Jones be the most important player on the team?)
C -- I spoke too much about LSU's Drake Nevis last season. But for Nevis coming up the middle with the speed of a 4AM Walmart shopper the day after Thanksgiving we would have beaten LSU. Our young QBs sure could use some breathing room up the middle.

QB- Strongest? I don't know. It's a comfortable situation to be in as a fan and probably as a coach as well. The first two games will be interesting to watch, that's for sure. The thought crosses my mind that I'd like UArk to score first, maybe get up 10 or 14 points just to see how they react. But, I don't see them scoring more than 17—IF they reach that mark—when they visit Tuscaloosa.

RB- I find it funny you characterize Lacy that way. Just this weekend a player said he'd rather tackle Trent than Eddie. I suppose that leaves Trent out of the top half-dozen in the SEC as well.

Oh, can you list that half of a dozen? I'm just curious how you see the RB's in the SEC. If we didn't have Trent, there's only one person on another SEC team I think could fill his shoes: Lattimore.

OL- Perhaps the most important guy on offense. But, I wouldn't say the entire team.

The opinion I hold is we have a lot of talent on the OL. The questions marks surrounding who steps in isn't so much about a talent drop-off, but who fits in the best.

C- So did Marcel in practice. Nevis is a guy I'd put right alongside Fairley when it comes to talented DT's. He has an incredible first step off the snap. Very highly rated by NFL scouts. About the only thing he lacks is the ability to play every snap is how I see him.

So, him blowing through our offensive line? I don't like to see it, but I'm not surprised. Let's not forget LSU is on par with Bama when it comes to talent.

I believe if Lacy can get over his past fumble issues, he could be one of the top 6, and with some of the talent at other schools, that's saying something.

I don't see fumbling as an issue with Eddie. He had two last year—SJSU and Duke—and didn't have another the rest of the season: 10 games.

Eddie Lacy is a fantastic running back and i believe would start at at least half of the other SEC schools right now.
