AGE: 39

ALMA MATER: Florida State, 1997

EXPERIENCE:

  • Miami OC (2013-14)

  • Florida State OC/TE coach (2010-2012)

  • Florida State TE coach/recruiting coordinator (2008-2009)

  • Miami Dolphins offensive assistant (2005-06)

  • LSU grad assistant (2003-2004)
CURRENT SALARY: $500,000

SCOUTING REPORT: As offensive coordinator at both Florida State and Miami, Coley has run a very similar scheme to what Georgia has done with Mike Bobo as offensive coordinator. His offense is mostly pro-style with some spread looks mixed in. In his first season as offensive coordinator at Miami, the Hurricanes averaged 425.8 yards and 33.8 points per game. While at Florida State, he developed a reputation as being a strong recruiter and played significant role in bringing top 10 recruiting classes to Tallahassee. In his first year at Miami, he signed four-star QB Brad Kaaya, who started every game for the Hurricanes this season as a true freshman. Coley will always be linked to Nick Saban as he started out as a graduate assistant at LSU under Saban and followed him to the Dolphins where he was an offensive assistant for a couple years.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Strong recruiting background; runs mostly pro-style offense; learned from Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher

POTENTIAL SNAGS: He's a Miami native that may not want to leave home

INTANGIBLES: Graduated from Florida State while Mark Richt was the offensive coordinator

Buster Faulkner

Middle Tennessee State Offensive Coordinator (2011 - Present)

  • Central Arkansas QBs (2009)

  • Valdosta State OC/QBs (2008-2009)

  • Georgia QB GA (2006)
CURRENT SALARY: $135,000

SCOUTING REPORT: A native of Lilburn where he played at Parkview High before playing collegiately at Florida State, Faulkner is considered by some to be one of the better up-and-coming coaches with a background as a solid recruiter. A graduate assistant at Georgia under Bobo in 2006 where he helped mentor former Bulldog quarterback Matthew Stafford, Middle Tennessee has enjoyed unparalleled offensive success during his four-year stint in Murfreesboro. Included was a 2013 season in which the Blue Raider offense had the second most yards in school history, ranked 31st nationally in rushing, and 25th in third down conversion percentage.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Considered a strong recruiter who knows the state and a versatile offensive coach.

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Little major college experience

INTANGIBLES: Energetic, youthful coach who has something to prove.

ALMA MATER: California Lutheran, 1987

  • Cincinnati WR (1992-1993)

  • SE Missouri State WR (1989)

  • Cal Lutheran WR (1987-1988)
CURRENT SALARY: $350,000

SCOUTING REPORT: Gran is a proven commodity in the SEC, having coached with Tuberville at Auburn for six years, where he served as the team's running back coach when Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown were part of the Tiger squad. He has also established himself as one of the nation's top recruiters. He has spent the better part of two decades recruiting Miami and greater South Florida as his primary territory. He helped the Seminoles attract the nation's No. 1 recruiting class in 2011. At Florida State the Seminoles boasted the nation's second-best special teams unit in 2011 based on the Football Outsiders Efficiency Ratings. Shawn Powell became FSU's first consensus All-American punter and the school's all-time leader in multiple punting categories as a three-year starter. Powell led the Football Bowl Subdivision with a 47-yard overall average and the Seminoles ranked second nationally in net punting (41.3). Hopkins was named one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award and Gran's return game featured some of the most electrifying players in Greg Reid, Joyner and Williams.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: A proven coach in the SEC whose offenses have posted big numbers; extremely effective recruiter.

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Long-time relationship with Bearcat coach Tommy Tuberville could play a role.

INTANGIBLES: Smart, hard-working, very familiar with Bulldog coaching staff.

Doug Meacham

  • Oklahoma State TEs/Inside WRs (2005-12)

  • Georgia Military College OC (1994-96)

CURRENT SALARY: $350,000 (Reported)

SCOUTING REPORT: In his first season at TCU, Meacham helped the Horned Frogs become one of the most potent offenses in the country. TCU racked up 562 points in their 12 games this season, which almost doubled their 2013 total of 301. TCU also broke school records this season in points, total offense, and passing yards and could set records in first downs and offensive plays during their bowl game. Meacham was a finalist this year for the Frank Broyles Award, which recognizes the nation's top assistant coach. Oklahoma State's offenses were also very prolific while Meacham was there. In five of his last six seasons in Stillwater, the Cowboys had a top 10 offense nationally and averaged over 40 points per game.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Could bring a new look to Georgia's offense with his background in the no-huddle, spread attack; has coached in the south his whole career; could open up Texas to the Dawgs on recruiting trail

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Originally from Arlington, TX and may not want to leave home; doesn't the run pro-style offense Richt seems to prefer

INTANGIBLES: His wife is a Georgia native.

Billy Napier

Alabama Wide Receivers Coach (2013 - Present)

AGE: 35

ALMA MATER: Furman, 2002

EXPERIENCE:

  • Alabama WR coach (2013-14)

  • Colorado State QB coach (2012)

  • Alabama offensive quality and control (2011)

  • Clemson offensive coordinator (2009-2010)

  • Clemson offensive assistant coach (2006-2010)

  • South Carolina State QB coach (2006)
CURRENT SALARY: $300,000

SCOUTING REPORT: As offensive coordinator at Clemson, Napier ran a pro-style offense. He coached Kyle Parker at Clemson in 2009 who earned freshman All-American status as a quarterback. During that 2009 season he led the Tigers to the most points scored in school history with 436 while also winning an ACC Atlantic Division Championship.

Napier is known for his ability to recruit offensive playmakers as he was the recruiting coordinator for the Clemson Tigers from 2006-2008. During that tenure, he brought in players like C.J. Spiller, Jacoby Ford, Andre Ellington, Dwayne Allen, and others.

While working at Alabama, he's coached the likes of Heisman finalist Amari Cooper and also continued building relationships with current and future recruits, especially within the southeast.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Runs mostly pro-style offense; coached under Jim McElwain at Colorado State who is now the head coach at Florida; was recruiting coordinator for Clemson from 2006-2008

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Would likely take a coordinator job or higher appealing title to pull from Alabama.

INTANGIBLES: In 2008, Napier signed Mark Richt's son Jon on a football scholarship at Clemson.

Kurt Roper

Florida Offensive Coordinator (2013 - Present)

AGE: 42

ALMA MATER: Rice, 1994

EXPERIENCE:

  • Florida OC/QB Coach (2014-present)

  • Duke OC/QB Coach (2008-2013)

  • Tennessee RB Coach (2006-2007)

  • Kentucky QB Coach (2005)

  • Ole Miss OC/QB Coach (1999-2004)

  • Tennessee Grad Assistant (1996-1998)
CURRENT SALARY: $700,000

SCOUTING REPORT: Kurt Roper has one of the best resumes of any young offensive coordinator in the nation. The Ames, Iowa native began his full-time coaching career under David Cutcliffe at Ole Miss, and helped mold Eli Manning into becoming the number one pick in the NFL draft in 2004.

After a couple of quick stops at Kentucky and Tennessee, Roper reunited with Cutcliffe at Duke, where the pair worked to take the Blue Devils from a perennial bottom feeder to regularly competing in the ACC, even gaining a memorable Chik-Fil-A Bowl appearance and nearly upsetting Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies.

This last season was his first with the Gators and he did receive a commitment from Treon Harris, who looked promising at times. Roper shouldn't be graded on his one year at Florida alone though, as it was never a good position for him to go into to begin with. His resume speaks for itself, and his ability to develop quarterbacks is impressive. Roper isn't the best recruiter, but if he is able to get the recruits on campus, he knows how to turn them into playmakers. Roper runs a similar pro-style type offense that the Bulldogs are used to, and have the players already in place for.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Excellent quarterback coach; runs mostly pro-style offense; learned from David Cutcliffe

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Not the best recruiter, lame duck season at UF might leave the wrong image

INTANGIBLES: Has strong ties with the SEC.

AGE: 49

ALMA MATER: Tennessee, 1988

EXPERIENCE:

  • Florida State co-OC/QB (2013-14)

  • Kentucky OC/QB coach (2009-2012)

  • Kentucky QB coach (2006-2008)

  • Tennessee OC/QB coach (1998-2005)

  • Tennessee offensive assistant coach (1988-1998)
CURRENT SALARY: $500,000

SCOUTING REPORT: As offensive coordinator at Tennessee, Kentucky, and Florida State, Sanders has ran a pro-style offense for the most part similar to what Georgia has been doing. He has run a higher percentage of snaps out of the shotgun throughout his career than Mike Bobo ran in Athens. While Sanders was on the Tennessee coaching staff, the Vols had a record of 162-46 while winning 4 SEC Championships and a National Championship.

In 1998, Sanders received his first offensive coordinator gig when David Cutcliffe was named the Ole Miss Head coach. His very first game as an offensive coordinator was the National Championship in the 1999 Fiesta Bowl. He coached/developed Tee Martin and Eric Ainge while offensive coordinator with the Vols.

In 2006, Sanders was named quarterback coach at the University of Kentucky. Throughout the next two seasons in Lexington, Sanders developed Andre' Woodson into one of the top quarterbacks in the country with him throwing for 7,224 yards, 71 touchdowns, and only 18 interceptions. He was named offensive coordinator at Kentucky in 2009 and then the quarterback coach/co-Offensive coordinator at Florida State in 2013.

Sanders is the only coach in college football to win a National Title in the first year and last year of the BCS era.

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Runs mostly pro-style offense; learned under David Cutcliffe; history of developing quarterbacks.

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Has not made lateral moves throughout his career only coaching with three different schools in 25+ years.

INTANGIBLES: Championship experience

Brian Schottenheimer

St. Louis Rams Offensive Coordinator (2012 - Present)

AGE: 41

ALMA MATER: Florida, 1997

EXPERIENCE:

  • Washington Redskins QB coach (2001)

  • San Diego Chargers QB coach (2002-2005)

  • New York Jets OC (2006-2011)

  • St. Louis Rams OC (2012-present)
CURRENT SALARY: N/A

SCOUTING REPORT: The son of longtime NFL head coach Marty Schottenheimer, his son Brian has been offensive coordinator in the NFL for the past nine years, including the last three with the St. Louis Rams. A graduate of the University of Florida, Schottenheimer was considered one of the top up and coming offensive coordinators in the NFL. Prior to that, the former Gator quarterback was an offensive assistant on Dick Vermeil's staff in St. Louis in 1997 and later worked for his father in Kansas City and Washington. This isn't the first time Schottenheimer has been linked to a collegiate job. In recent years, the Kansas native interviewed with Alabama.

Although the Rams took a step back in 2014, in 2013, Schottenheimer helped several Rams reach career numbers in 2013. RB Zac Stacy rushed for 973 yards, 969 of which came in the last 11 games, and posted the third highest rushing total by a rookie in team history. Jared Cook set new Rams single-season records for receiving yards by a tight end. The success came despite the fact that St. Louis started seven different offensive line combinations for a second-consecutive season. During Schottenheimer's time in New York, he constructed an offense that helped the Jets earn back-to-back appearances in the AFC Championship Game. In 2011, the Jets led the NFL in red zone percentage as they scored touchdowns on 36 of their 55 trips inside their opponents' 20 yard line (65.5 percent).

MOST APPEALING TRAITS: Reputation as a solid NFL offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, having worked with the likes of Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez.

POTENTIAL SNAGS: Lack of recruiting experience. Has not been around the college game since 2000 when he was the tight ends coach at USC.

INTANGIBLES: Runs a pro-style offense and name recognition.

Other Possibilities

Mario Cristobal

The current Alabama offensive line coach provides another direct link to Tuscaloosa, much like Pruitt, and he’s got head coaching experience, leading Florida International for six seasons.

Billy Gonzales

The Co-OC and passing game coordinator at Mississippi State helped Dak Prescott and the Bulldogs to one of their best all-time seasons, narrowly missing the College Football Playoff. Time spent at Florida and LSU only serve to reinforce SEC ties.

Clay Helton

A lengthy resume with major experience, including his current tenure as USC’s OC and QBs coach, Helton has helped bring along the likes of Matt Barkley. At his stop in Memphis, he helped the electric Deangelo Williams to first round draft status. A proven developer of talent.

Tyson Helton

Familiar to Pruitt, Helton’s spent time at Memphis, Cincinnati, UAB, and, currently, Western Kentucky, at the Hilltoppers offensive coordinator. He’s got a coaching pedigree, as father Kim has spent time in the college and pro ranks.

Jay Johnson

Stops at Missouri, Kansas, Southern Miss, Louisville, Central Michigan, and Louisiana-LaFayette have earned him a long resume and connection to several open coordinator jobs, including Mississippi State at one point.

John Lilly

A name obviously well known to Bulldog fans, Lilly appears to be the most likely internal hire that could be made for the position. He’s well liked, has coached players to the NFL, and, in calling plays for the Belk Bowl appearance, he didn’t seem to have too many snags.

Lincoln Riley

A dark horse, as he runs particular to the spread, Riley is one of the hottest young names in coaching, assisting Ruffin McNeal in the revamp of East Carolina.
