Does the #12 actually hold any significance with you anymore?

As Alabama fans we’ve always been quick to point to the number of traditions we have in our history.

There’s the Crimson jersey that just exudes tradition. Words like ā€œclassā€ and ā€œintegrityā€ have been engrained in our memories. We talk of Rose Bowl victories back in the 1920’s. The number of bowl games played, along with those won, is something brought up weekly.

Words like championships and All-Americans make up another list that seemingly goes on forever.

Then there’s the names we banter about like Bryant, Namath, Newsome, McNeil, Hannah, Thomas (both coach and player,) and we’ve found ourselves starting yet another list we could spend a weekend discussing ad nauseam.

But numbers? Is there a place in our conversation for those?

Nameth, Stabler, Alabama QB. #12 is an Alabama QB's number.

Stabler's the first thought that came to mind, but to go along with that I'd add Nameth and 1992.

Therein my point. Neither is the case anymore.

Curious, what would you call the #8 now? A WR number? Not this year, or next, and possibly a third unless he declares after his Jr. year or changes numbers.

To me it was about the previous 12 National Championships and when seeing QB's wear the number 12 they were trying to break the barriers into winning another National Championship and be listed as "one of the greats" who wore the number 12

Championship QBs' Trammell, Namath, Stabler, McElroy. For the longest time it signified the 12 titles.

I have always thought # 12 on offense and # 55 on defense should be held for great players. # 55 in honor of DT, one of the greatest LBs to ever play the game. I loved watching him play. I did some research one time and alot of other great Tide defenders have worn #55 also. But that was years ago and I can't recall. LOL

* Also, didn't Coach Bryant wear #12 as a End at Bama?

The #12 always held to meaning to me, great quarterbacks of our past and the significance of 12 NCs. Winning our past 2 NCs has knocked some of the luster or meaning from the number I guess.
