I don't think this is of any importanceāas in a player who can dramatically change a rosterābut I find it noteworthy since he's an SEC guy. He contributed to story lines...'bout it, wasn't it?
Maybe you're right. I have my doubts he's on the radar. Here's my logic.
Last season, UK spent roughly 20 million on their roster. Alabama's has been estimated around 8 million. With guys like Hodgeson saying he hasn't talked with a portal guy asking for less than a million, I immediately think "what's Bama's offer?"
I strongly suspect he was getting paid more at UK than he would at Bama. And there's where it starts failing the logic tests.
Now, that said, UK's NIL policy is an outlier to others. I've been told some players aren't real "thrilled" about UK having so much control. I've seen references where they've told transfers to expect "pay cuts."
I think it's very reasonable to say their basketball program is in disarray. So, seeing kids want out doesn't surprise me. Where they land is the question since they are (reportedly) coming off of one of the most expensive rosters in collegiate basketball. If they are leaving looking for a better money deal? While leaving one of the better ones?

Pretty much the only reason he chose UK was because UK dropped a very desperate bag in order to keep a local kid. Otherwise, it was a big win for Oats and Murphy to go into Lexington and steal a recruit.
UK insiders say he was unhappy with his development he was receiving from Pope. I think based on how hard we recruited him, he is absolutely in play to come here. But again, it will come down to his asking price and what Oats is willing to spend on a player who didn't amount to much last season.
