LOL......yeah that did tend to stand out. I was just bored and was watching the game. I know that the field goals are the ones that doomed us, but

5 to 2......... in position to score 5 times to LSU's 2 (in regulation)

The graph implies that the coaches did a heck of a good job game-planning. LSU's offense had no answer all night for our Defense, while their Defense did not seem to get a handle on (i.e. forcing punts/turnovers) until the second half. I see no reason why we can't play with that same advantage this time around as well.

It took a career worst day by our kickers to force overtime. If they go just 1 for 3 on the the FGs they miss, we would be talking about how bad they played in the victory. What are the odds that they kick that poorly again? What are the chances that we don't score a TD?

I like where we are/have been. CNS has been permitted to coach up his team without the destractions that LSU has had to face (Save for Trent). If I can borrow references from the Rocky series, LSU has trained like Apollo Creed while Bama has been in relative isolation like Rocky in Rocky 5.

Keeping an holding the ball is an interesting angle. There were 20 Offensive drives in the game, 10 for each team. As a theme the driver were short (in time), only two reaching 5:00 (both Bama's) resulting in 1 missed and 1 made FG. When we held onto the ball and moved the chains we got shots at points.

Beyong the two "Freakishly-long" drives of 6 and 5 minutes, 6 of the remaining 8 drives of the longest 10 drives were LSU's. Bama had on drive of 4:27 that was 7 plays and a punt, and the shortest at 3:06 lasting 6 plays and ending in an interception. LSU's drives were 8, 6, 6, 11, 8, and 6 plays each. I would point out that there were only two drives in the entire game that I would call "sustained" at 11 plays each. With so few snaps to score points, this was a game that was not lost due to explosive/big plays. No Daniel Moore moments. No Julio Jones sprint down the left sideline when Patrick Peterson goes out with a cramp.

Bama punted twice and still managed to get within FG range some other team's kickers. I'm very impressed with Tiger Punter Brad Wing, and I think that we countered the potential for losing a punting dual about as well as any team that LSU has faced this year. We punted from our own 48 yardline and then again from our own 18, but that last one was with less than 5 minutes left in the game. We did not give them good field position as a result of forcing a punt for virtually the entire game.

Both teams were/are so evenly matched. I'll be honest, I don't put as much credit to the missed FG's losing us the game as most other people. Sure, if they make them, we win. I know, I know, but those weren't exactly chip shots, and neither kicker really has the leg for those types of kicks. They were kinda in the "tweener" range, where if you punt you take a chance on only gaining 10 yards.

The biggest difference to me? The last four drives for each team really stand out to me.

LSU: FG, Punt, Punt and FG (Game-Winner)
Bama: INT, INT, Punt, and Missed FG - I obviously left out AJ's drive of taking knees.

Now, I think most LSU fans would agree that Bama had the upper hand most of the night. Until the very end. When it counts the most, they were able to come up with points, and win the field position battle.

I will say this going forward to this game in 2 weeks. We had the home field advantage in the first meeting. I'd imagine LSU fans will out number us in the Super-Dome this time around.

But I'll also say that I feel like LSU's best offense was a Speed Option out of the Shotgun w/ Jefferson. Something that we didn't seem to be prepared for. I'd imagine that won't happen again.

I hope our kids wear a chip on their shoulder for this game, because there's plenty of nay-sayers out there that think they don't deserve to be in this game.

Both teams were extremely conservative on offense, respecting the opposing defenses and playing field position. I expect that to change in NOLA. The back breaker for me was the INT on the pass by Maze (which probably wasn't an interception anyway - tie goes to the offensive player...). First and goal from the one, would have won that game.

Doesn't matter now. Only thing that matters is that we come out swinging big time.

to start at the 5 and the 4, and even have a chance at a field goal against the #2 defense is pretty good

i also think that when Maze let that punt go over his head following the "INT"......that was the back breaker. I think that even if he fair catches it we at least get a chance at the win......Brad Wing punted from the endzone....ending with a 73yd punt

MrChase, I agree with you on that "Maze letting that punt go over his head", was a crucial point in the game (good observation by the way). Basically special teams in a whole was piss poor to say the least. Offense needed to execute a TD drive and should of. Defense did their job, as well as the offense, because they put Bama in a spot to win more than once and we didn't execute on special teams. I know this, special teams need to do their job, and that's the bottom line. We can beat LSU, and I have a feeling we will, and do not feel like I am going out on a limb by saying that. I fully expect us to win this game. Thanks for your input, always get good stuff and insight from it.

It doesn't matter if we won that game or not. I still think we would of been playing LSU in the end regardless. As mentioned both teams we very conservative on offense and I don't expect to see them keep it so tight in this game. I like our chances but you know the mad hatter is going to have a few wrinkles this time.
