🏈 GAME THREAD No. 1 Alabama Falls to No. 2 Clemson in 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, 44-16

The best team won plain and simple we were out played in very phase of the game.

And out coached. That fake FG was just sad. Pathetic and sad, and summed up our coaching tonight.

Unsuccessful fakes almost always look foolish. Take another look. 79 completely quit on that play, letting a player who was essentially triple-teamed make a play. If he just gets in the way, that poor play call actually had a chance.

@JoseyWalesTheOutlaw said something similar to this awhile back and I thought of it several times during the game:

"When you strike the King, you have to kill him." That's about what Clemson done last night. With the game won and less than 3 minutes to go, the QB himself was running the ball and trying to score.

No doubt Bama also helped / gave a boost to the 2019 campaign "Lawrence for the Heisman." But to the victor belong the spoils and my hat's off to Dabo and his staff / team.

Guess this will allow me to catch up on some reading because there'll be no need to watch ESPN for awhile.

If Bama doesn’t throw whatever it costs to get Dabo when CNS retires then they should all retire and go do something else

Swinney is not coming to Bama IMO. Why would he when he is building his own dynasty in S.C.?

I expect Clemson will update Dabo's contract after this huge win. They will want to protect themselves against a possible move to Bama within 4 years so it will be up to Dabo to give himself an out to Bama without having to pay a truckload on the buyout. I believe Nick will do 4 more years at the most as long as both he and Terry have good health.

HOW, how could we screw up so much in one game?

If you think about it we did similar vs UGA in the 1st half with all the dropped passes. Then against OU in the 2nd half. This Bama team might have real talent but many of them have shite for brains. This year we had MANY personal foul penalties and a bunch of people running that mouth. I am old but JMO there is something wrong when a defensive player finally makes a play (60 yards down the field) then he jumps up to gives us his folded arm pitch. Where was his azz the other 60 yards?

44 was triple-teamed and made the play, but even if he did not that play was doomed. There were other defenders ready to stop Mac well short of the line to make.

Winning is a relief and losing is a disaster at Alabama under Nick Saban. The path forward.......who knows but having seen Coach Bryant's great years and Nick's as well I consider myself very lucky to have been a Bama fan. Four players off my high school team were given a scholly (1956) by Coach Whitworth so Dad followed those guys in addition to he worked at BF Goodrich in TitleTown thus being a Bama fan was part of life.

Nick Saban....“Dominant teams rarely are outplayed or outclassed, but they sometimes beat themselves. Just because you are dominant does not mean you are infallible. Remember that dominance does not mean perfection; a lack of focus for even a short period of time can cost you. Do not relax when you are far ahead or dominating your marketplace. That is the time to push even harder.”

“Great leaders do not rush to make changes because of failure.”

We'll see

I actually remember something from "The Replacements" the movie, where they're asked about quicksand, and trying to escape. In an attempt to take the lead Bama took a lot of risks and forced things more and more as the game went on, which caused the score to become more lopsided than it should have been. The more and more you struggle, the worse and worse it gets, chill out, do your thing and you might be able to escape.

I haven’t listened to the post game press conference or any news media today so I don’t know what Coach Saban said or the media either but here’s a theory I’ve had on the game.

I think we’ll all agree that Coach Saban is one of the best at breaking down film of an opponent, not perfect but one of the best.

I wonder, after watching his demeanor on the sideline, if while breaking down Clemson film,
He realized we don’t have the defense / personnel to stop Clemson without getting some help from them. Realizing that, he knew we’d have to play a near perfect game on offense to win. When we spotted them two interceptions he knew we were in trouble.

Then, Locksley started calling Maryland type plays instead of Bama type plays, especially in the red zone. Pretty soon Coach Saban knew the game was over, probably by half time.

Venerables did several things that confused us but we still had over 400 yards total offense. Red zone offense play calling killed our usual potent offense.

What do you think? Any of this possible?

Crazy stat of the game.

Clemson was 10 of 15 on 3rd down. Just in passing on 3rd down, they were 8-12 for 240 yards w/ 2 TDs. 69% of Trevor's passing yards came on 3rd down (240 of 347). Wrap your head around that.

Exactly. I would have benched Williams, Davis, and Buggs in the 4th. Their asses quit.

Bama made it all the way to the Big Game with the offense dragging a average defense every step of the way. LSU was the best game the defense played and JMO the reason is the LSU QB is about average. Tua and his offense just put so many points on the board and most of time early in those games that may have discouraged our opposition. My concern is what and who are going to fix the defensive problems in 2019? It is very possible that Tua got ahead of himself with all the awards etc but after that azz whipping it would be hard for any player on the team not to be humble. I want to read before game one in 2019 that some players had beaten out (defense) #4,#30.#32,and #99 for a starting spot. If so then that bodes well for improvement.

Buggs was taking plays off in the first half. He made no effort on the edge on the Etienne's TD run from 16-17 yards out.
