šŸˆ Nick Saban’s Legacy at Alabama, Will it End and When?

When he does leave, people are going to assume we're going to fall right back into the dark days. Bull. When Saban leaves, he's going to leave one of the best, if not the best, well run'd programs in the nation. I seriously doubt when he leaves that all of the talent will just vanish like that. He's going to leave what he's had over here since 08, one of the most talented and disciplined teams in the nation at the best college in America. He's not going to leave a dumpster fire like Tennessee is in now or what he walked into in '07. Now try and convince me that top head coaches won't be lining up to coach here. Whether the next HC lives up to our fans standard and sustain the success is remain to be seen, but I hardly think we'll fall back into irrelevancy, or what we called irrelevant.

You sir, just gave me an idea for a WONDERFUL article... That's some great thoughts... I couldn't agree more... I was in a group with a bunch of Red Elephant Club members once with Nick nearby, and someone asked me if Saban got hit by a bus tomorrow who would I want to be the next head coach at Bama and without hesitation, I said, James Franklin at Vanderbilt. If he can win there, he'd go wild here!

And my buddy asked why I didn't say Kirby and I said our program is too big now for another untested rookie head coach, I'd want someone who's been there and done that and done it well.

Saban leaned over, smiled and said something like, "Well don't be calling him too soon, OK?" So he's got a sense of humor about what will happen next. Saban really liked the hire of Bill Battle, some say said it was his blessing that could have landed him the job, so there's a STRONG liklihood that Saban will have some sort of say in his successor...

I know there's no tie between Franklin and Saban and it may not be someone Saban would consider, but he's someone I sure would....

I hope I'm wrong, but we maybe within a couple years from coaches from other schools telling recruits that "Saban will retire before your senior year" much like coaches did in Bryant's last few years, and then you start having a drop in talent. Also if we go a few decades of "We have to keep it a Saban's boy" much like we heard "We have to keep it a Bear's boy" rather than hiring the best coach out there we could see a drop. If we hire a coach without a backbone, and the Athletics Dept. becomes one of the best and efficient run programs to a good ole boy system like we had for years after Bryant. People that have no business in the athletic dept. jockeying for position because of who he is or who he knows that otherwise wouldn't be in that position if a Saban like figure is at the helm, then we're in trouble . Sorry to be doom and gloom, but I personally fear the post Saban years.

Good article Larry. I know the Saban years will come to an end someday but there's nothing I can do to prevent it. I'm just enjoying the Saban years as much as I did the Bryant years.
