🏈 Nick Saban not concerned about kicking woes against Wisconsin

I wonder how many fg's he's going to have to miss and how many potential games he's going to have to cost us before he starts worrying? I'm not worried about Scott because he consistently did his job last season. Griffith on the other hand has yet to consistently make fg's since he's been here. I guess when it cost us a game is when he'll start worrying.

I guess I was wrong to judge. Good luck to the kickers and I hope they will improve. If Coach ain't worried why should I worry my little head. I will just start picking out the cigars I will be smoking after Tennessee game.

Well I am concerned. Out of the last 6 games we've lost (going back to 2011 season), 3 of the 6 we would have won had we not missed a FG during the game. Maybe I'm wrong on that. LSU game that went to OT in 2011 (I think we missed several in that game), the Barn in 2013 (kick 6), and Ole Piss last year (missed 2 and lost by 6). I know the A&M loss was close snd we had the ball inside the 10 and went for it at the end. Not sure if we missed a FG earlier in that one that would have allowed us to kick the FG and win or tie that one.

So yeah, based on our struggles last year in the FG kicking game and going 0-2 in makeable kicks Saturday, I'm concerned.

There were a few members on here last year that vietmehtly defended Griffith on every miss blaming his back. Looks like it wasn't just the back...

At some point the plug has to be pulled on AG, and simply limit our FG attempts to 35-40 yards with Gunnar. Just playing the simple odds game, we're better off going for it on fourth
inside the 35, and playing defense if you don't convert. It will be interesting to see how long CNS's patience remains watching AG consistently miss these very makeable FGs. Sooner or later it's gonna cost us a game or two.

Saban's concerned too. He's being a team player and attempting to bouy the kickers' confidence.
As CNS said in the article, Griffin hit both his kicks well, just missed them. Confidence is a huge part of what a FG kicker does, much like what a free throw shooter does in basketball, or for that matter, what a golfer does with a tee shot. Maybe we should give Adam a chip shot that he can make to get him back in the groove.

Ummm, I think that has already happened.

This is right.

Griffith is already in his own head. He missed the first one way left... Then overcorrected on the second and missed it right. A good kicker disregards the previous kick, good or bad, and does what he's trained to do... If Griffith doesn't trust himself, how can anyone else trust him? If he can't make kicks vs MTSU, no way he should be kicking vs Ole Miss.

Griffith has lost his confidence and I am not sure what to do about it. Saban is paid the big bucks to make good decisions about it. I hope that whatever has messed up Griffith doesn't mess with Eddy Pineiro when he arrives in January.

He hit them well? oh, well as long as he hit them well then that's all that matters. I understand he's not wanting to trash his player, I completely understand that, but hopefully behind closed doors he's getting to the bottom of the situation. I mean, how much longer can you ride Griffith? How many more opportunities does he get? I know I have never been given this many chances in school or professionally.

Since I waited too long to edit I will ETA:
No game should come down to the kicker.
Agree with what you said about the failed plays and FGs but when it does come down to the kicker, the team needs someone that can do the job. I'm afraid AG has some type of mental fog that he can't shake it out of his head.

I trust the coaching staff but they do have brain farts now and then; like sending AG out to try a near 60 yard FG with one second to play.

I say Saban sets AG up with Dr. Elko or some shrink. It is in his head and he is in it too, confusing the hell out of himself! Maybe watching tape pre injury, much like a hitter does when he gets in a slump. Kickers are a squirrelly bunch anyways, so maybe a shrink would help. Either that or the Michael Proctor approach, puff, puff, puff again!!

If I remember correctly Proctor went into a slump when they made him quit puffing, lol.

Proctor just had to stop bong hits and keg stands a minimum 12 hours before the game. So crazy but when he was young he was very quiet, c student who had some swagger but didn't do much partying. He found his love for that stuff after his freshman year.

Another example of a good kid who just kind of took a wrong path for a while and it cost him. He was a great all around athlete, 5'9 and could dunk, was fast and a terrific soccer player.
