One of the most successful college football coaches has joined the ownership group of an upscale golf course and private club at north Georgiaās Lake Burton.
Nick Saban, head football coach of the University of Alabama, is now one of several owners of the Waterfall Club, a 400-acre golf community nestled high above the lake with amazing mountain views.

Heās one of five new owners, joining Ken Whisenhunt, offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers; Marlan Wilbanks, senior partner of law firm Wilbanks/Gouinlock LLP; Lenny Lemoine, president and CEO of The Lemoine Co.; and Mike Nixon, partner of Hawks Ridge Golf Club.
The news was sent out via an email announcement and posted on the Waterfall Clubās Facebook page.
The change comes after one of Waterfallās owners, Terry Stiles, died in September, says the announcement. The Stiles family will remain part owners of the club, along with Rob Hewlett, managing partner of Waterfall Club.
āWe are very excited about the new owners and the passion and commitment to the club that they each bring,ā says the announcement. āNick, Ken, Lenny and Marlan have homes on the lake and they have used and enjoyed the club regularly for the last decade ⦠We believe that our club will thrive and grow in significant ways under this new ownership group.ā
Waterfall Club, which features an 18-hole golf course, mountain lodge and sports facility, has some bumpy years in the past.

Developer J.T. Williams Jr. (who created Eagleās Landing in Henry County) developed Waterfall. But in 2010, amid the Great Recession, the club and Williams filed for bankruptcy.
Atlanta-based Reynolds Capital Group, a division of the Reynolds Cos., later acquired the club and dozens of undeveloped lots.
After that, the country club and its membership were taken over by three of its residents, while the land around the club was sold off separately.
Its membership grew substantially in the years following, according to a 2015 interview with Waterfall Club General Manager Jason LeBlanc.

Saban led his Crimson Tide squad to the 2018 College Football Playoff national championship earlier this month with a 26-23 overtime win over the Georgia Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The win marked Saban's fifth national title in 11 seasons.
