Anyone know how the University comes up with how a schedule is put together ?? specifically how much input Saban has with picking opponents. Im just curious who is at the top in that decision making process and just how much..if any input Saban has. Our strength of schedule will most certainly be pushed much higher next year.

Next years' schedule is full of interesting road games and different opponents. There's the home games against San Jose State and Penn State. I don't know what to make of PSU next year, but I know they are losing a lot. I wouldn't expect a lot of San Jose State right off the cuff. We make two trips to the Carolinas: to play Duke, who I think might be very good next year, but I don't know what they will lose, and to play S. Carolina, who will be a year older, but I don't think improved at all. They might be better offensively I guess (can't get much worse). Then we've got a trip to LSU, Arkansas, and to Tennessee, and home games against Ole Miss and Auburn, and I don't know what to expect from Ole Miss.

Meanwhile, we lose McClain most likely, but get Hightower back. We will lose Arenas, but return Mark Barron. We lose Mike Johnson, but much of the rest of that line returns. All the receivers are coming back. All the RB's are coming back, including one Terry Grant, who is remarkably only a junior.

We might be even better next year than this year. We will miss Tiffin, who has scored like half our points this year :D.

Offensively you forgot Drew Davis, along with Roy Upchurch.

Having said that...I think our offense will be better next year and will help our defense come along. All in all we start reloading. We fans that follow the team closely might notice hick-ups with the D, but to folks that casually follow the team we will look like the other teams that have dominated this past decade, Texas, USC, OK, etc.

At the very top of that process is the SEC office. They schedule the 8 conference games and the 5 open dates (6 in the years there are 14 weeks in which to play 12 games). Either the open dates are assigned years in advance or the school has some say in one or more of them, otherwise Bama could not have scheduled, several years ago, the games with PSU on 9/11/10 and 9/10/11 (easy to remember so I memorized them when they were scheduled).

Anyway, once the open dates are determined, Mal Moore &/or Mike Vollmar, Associate Athletics Director - Football would then begin the process of scheduling 4 OOC games and the off date(s). Rest assured, Coach Saban would have input and final say on that process.

You also forgot a little home game in early October against a suddenly Tebowless UF. I love getting to beat Florida twice a year for the next two years.
