💬 News of the weird: Youth football team tries to play 18yr with 13/14 yr old team

Just shows you how ultra competitive our kids sports have become. When my son was 8 playing football I saw parents acting like their son was playing for his shot at a D1 scholarship or the NFL Combine. Its kind of sad to see the fun taken out of the games. I mean like less than 2% of kids playing college football make it to the NFL.

I don't have a son, but I did volunteer with the little legends, and the pee-wee football teams. What some people will do to get and edge. The ones that didn't want to caoch shore did like telling you how to coach.

I watched a dad nearly get into a fight with the coaches because they took his son out of the game and took his helmet from him. He had his bell rung and probably had a concussion. But the dad wanted his son back in the game. Needless to say several parents were upset by the dads actions and took their kids off the field and left due to the dad trying to fight the coaches.

A lot of these parents see it as a way out of their low income lifestyle and ride their children to glory. Others are parents that never achieved on the field glory or never even played themselves, causing the extra fire and living vicariously.

I was one of these guy that help the coaches, that show me that I didn't wanted to help anymore.

He must have thought Saban, Meyer, or maybe even Joe Alleva were looking for another coach!!
This was one of the reasons that I didn't want my son playing REC football. These wanna be coaches don't know jack shit about the fundamentals, the rules of the game, or really give a shit about the kids!!! After I got out of coaching HS, I vowed to sit back and simply be a Dad and watch my son play. It wasn't too long before I was asked to take a baseball team and then a football team. I repeatedly turned down the baseball but said I would help whomever selected my son. When I was asked about football, I declined. I was then asked to help. Before all was said and done, it was MY TEAM. The guy didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground much like I had forseen. Parents bitched about where their sons played, how much they played, etc. I told the REC director that I would never coach for him again, because at the HS level, I didn't hesitate to tell a parent exactly what they could do with "little Johnny".

Yeah, along these lines... it pisses me off to no end to see Pee Wee age teams running trick plays. This is the time to instill stuff like hard work and ethics, not "you can get through life by bullshitting others." I mean does the city mighty might championship really gain you so much prestige that you have have to teach this shit? do the coaches really think they have accomplished something by doing this? Do they think Nick Saban will be calling them to replace Lane Kiffin at the end of the season? I can barely excuse this action in high school ball, nothing younger than that.
