📡 New UA president officially announced…

GPA don't matter. Anyone can pass a class with chatgpt, cheating notes and etc. it doesn't matter. It's what you know and how you break the knowledge down .

I really believe If @BamaFan334 had his way with how school is set up... His views and belief won't align with students and I think he would be fired within two years. 😂😅😅😅

I'm having more of a good time at how you always rely on Terry to come to your defense in a conversation and how you seemingly fall in line with everything he says. Weird, but funny.

All that being said, it's not hard to pass college these days with all of the tools at your disposal. I'm especially laughing at these comments because of the countless students out there with worthless degrees and student loan debts they will never be able to repay. Yeah, they are so smart and that 3.5 GPA in Philosophy is going to send them places. Also gotta love those Biden bailouts for all those genius For Profit school students where these people got degrees and have no shot at ever seeing value in that degree.

You'll always be able to find a group that punches above their weight when it comes to intelligence vs test scores. I'm just not for lowering standards for ANYONE in particular just because they fall into a category outside of academic achievement. Why even try? If you don't have to compete in academics for a spot, scholarships, or special programs, why even try? I would love to know how Texas residents feel with their 10% rule where the Top 10% of every school gets into the state college of their choice. Goes back to Terry's point where kids at a competitive school are screwed over for kids at less competitive schools.

Because they're faster. Because they are better athletes.

Let's flip the script a bit. Take New College at UA. When I was there the max was 200. To "get in," you had to sit in front of a panel of six: three profs and three people that were upper class in the division. I took a seminar one semester then applied the following. I offered something different (age, experience, etc.) Should I have received different/special treatment? I say yes. It was earned.

You earned it by sitting in front of a panel and meeting pre-requisites. Yes, you earn the right to earn an Executive MBA by going to work and creating a resume worthy of admission standards. Should law school applicants be allowed if they score under school standards? Did Saban offer every high school player in the country or only offer studs that earned the offer eith their on-field performance? It's not a hard concept to understand, but @Justneedme81 seems to think you should just show up and be given a chance because you woke up and rolled out of bed.

What's the problem . I should be able to roll out of the bed because I worked my ass off. Same opportunity... Some people just test high than others but has same work ethic.

And like I said, your GPA would show that. Extracurricular activities would show that. I analyze numbers every single day. If I see a collective body of work is very high quality and we have a one day blip, more questions are going to be asked rather than marking it a failure. If that's what you're saying, we are in total agreement that everyone has an off day and shouldn't be forgotten due to that. I admitted I wasn't the best test taker. I had to work hard to overcome that and did, not just expect them to give me what I wanted and blame the system for not getting it. Body of work matters to me, but if the body of work is below a standard, I don't believe you lower that standard, otherwise why do any of it.

You aren't allowing context here.
We have three interns in my program at work. I had a chance to talk to them about their education history. one admitted that he's getting by with B's and C's and the other two's are A's and B's. I've had opportunity to work with three. On one task, I did something poor on purpose to see if they would catch my mistakes given their limited background.

Guess what? the one with B's and C's and halfway lazy caught all of my mistakes and he provided rationale for each mistakes he caught. The others missed it completely. I asked him why he took extra time to pay attention to my work? His answer were simple: I just wanted to work harder and I don't want anyone to think I'm lazy and don't do the work. I'm trying my best and I know my grades doesn't always show that.

GPA doesn't matter. It doesn't tell the whole story. I need to see that person at work, I need to know what their traits are and as long they put in the work, I don't care.

It tells a story in that specific context. It's not a one shoe that fits all scenario.

IE: Take coming out of HS. There's a difference between a 4.0 from Briarcrest and Hillcrest.

Take any group of 20 people as an example, in any profession, any craft, or common laborers. There will be 1 at the top and all others line up behind. According to, but not always, education, pride, heart, want to and other intangibles. Yeah, some doctors are better than others, Same with lawyers, techies, teachers, coaches and ALL fields of endeavor.

When ever any doc or lawyer, roofer, ditch digger is recommended to you, Praise is most always heaped upon him or her, warranted or not.
You Never hear, " Keep a watch on Dr ............., He can be hard to get along with and frequently makes the wrong diagnosis."

Ha. My mom was a teacher there many years back.
Sir, that would be Briarwood, a private Presbyterian school off 459 near Bham.

Actually it is a ways off 459. It is down 119 close to 280.

The church is off Acton Rd and 459.......but the school is down the road a ways.
I say this, because I used to live just a few miles away from the school. I'm a bit of geography nazi/nerd.
