💬 New site for rolltide.com

i was just going to post about this.

it looks good, but it's just the one page and none of the links lead to anything like the old rolltide.com site. the only links on the page lead to social media sites.

where are the stories and news about all the stuff that used to be there? not everybody uses social media; i'm not on facebook, twitter, instagram, etc.

and the link tagged to the words "on twitter" go to a "page doesn't exist" page on twitter. the one with the actual hash-tag is a proper link, but not the aforementioned one. you'd think they'd know to use the same link or get the twitter account name correct when building the page. or at least test out ALL the links before the page is posted.

You talking about these links? The drop down menu has a different look, but you can still get to the same place: eventually. (click to enlarge thumbnail.)

It's clear they are going to a more responsive design. That's a good thing, but to me they've got too much they are trying to do on one page. At the first load, you're looking at 25-30 plus things that have to load— it's slow on the first load. A lot quicker once you've been through the site and it's cached...but as soon as they start adding content in the fall it's going to be a slow-go again, I suspect.

When I looked over it yesterday I walked away considering creating a folder in my browser with links to every sport I follow ... save a little time wading through everything.

The deal that Bama signed with Learfield last year has led to this switch. Here's the division handling the web site now.
SIDEARM Sports – The #1 Provider of College Athletics Websites

I can't say I mind them moving away from CBSInteractive

i don't see any of that on my screen. and i've checked in more than one browser.

in chrome, firefox, and ie, i see this...

RT_HOME_zpsbzbtzg6q.jpg

i just checked in edge, and it shows the menu and pics.

weird.

figured it out.

i cleared the cache as @15Champs suggested, but unfortunately that didn't do anything. then i remembered i have a button on my browser window connected to my antivirusinternet security software. it was set to "block all", so it was blocking most images, ads, and menus. i guess when they made the change my antivirus didn't know the difference. so i just went in a redid the settings and all is good again.

i feel so stupid for not thinking of it earlier.

Don't. Believe you me. Don't! I can't tell you how many times I've missed some of the simplest things.

If those links are being blocked by your ad blocker it's all on their end. They screwed up with the site design if browsers are reading links as ads. Poor, poor design.

Code:
<script>
    var obj = {"start":0,"count":10,"name":"header---presenting-sponsor-1-a02432","sport_id":null,"css_class":"","extra":null,"type":"ads","id":"ba87cb48-d28b-4de5-8a35-d6d998e933fb","data":{"location":{"id":0,"title":null,"type":null,"effect":null,"fixed_image_sizes":false,"slick":false,"dfp":false,"html_template":null,"name":null,"sizes":null,"slick_options":null,"dfp_sizes":null},"campaigns":[]}};
    if (!("sidearmComponents" in window))
        window.sidearmComponents = [];
    window.sidearmComponents.push(obj);
</script>

most likely this code they are using that is right before the menu that caused the trouble

They (Sidearmsports) aren't using that on all their sites. I see it on UCF's site ...

In the thread about the violations being reported ... the article opens up like this:

Alabama sports teams self-reported 19 secondary NCAA violations during the 2015-16 calendar year, according to information posted on Alabama's athletics website Sunday night.

@sk33tr You mentioned finding articles they normally post and we figured that one out. Now, see if you can find that article. I couldn't .
