I'm not saying that we will definitely beat Arkansas at all--let me say that upfront. Our secondary plays very soft, typically in the first half, and Mallett will pick us apart if he has time. We're going to have to blitz him and confuse him to have any shot at that game.
That being said, I think Auburn presents a bigger challenge to Arkansas than USCjr does. The Spurrier QB rotation will be in full swing by the time those two teams play. Garcia is just as bad as he is good when there is true pressure on him. He plays will but when the chips are down, he cracks. Their back-up is a true freshman. Mistakes WILL happen.
Arkansas has a much better defense than I thought but they will struggle defending Cam Newton. I think our o-line should be able to get a solid push and open up some running lanes. We eventually wore down USCjr and found Dyer some room, which opened up the rest of the offense. It will not be an easy win, hell it may well be a loss, but I wouldn't count us out against Arkansas. Especially with the game being at home. At the end of the day, this is still a Bobby Petrino team. Their defense will eventually give up a play. Even last season when they jumped out all over us. Our offense stormed back in the second half and then hit a wall and they finished blowing us out. I don't see the wheels coming off the offense in that same manner this year.
AlabamaAubKiller, I'm with you on LSU. Miles will continue to underwhelm, in my opinion. They may beat us but I'd be shocked. Especially with them coming to Jordan-Hare Stadium at night. That place has felt like a completely different stadium this year. There is just something different about the energy level. Jarrett Lee and Richard Jefferson are playing musical chairs at this point for the QB position. Their D has looked suspect; they struggled with playing UNC's scout team (or what amounted to it anyway). Maybe I'm setting myself up for disappointment but they just don't concern me.
And as for the polls, I think Arkansas took too far of a plunge. They were the #10 team and they lost to the #1 team. Unfortunately, all the teams that jumped in front of them still have a 0 in the loss column and at the end of the day, the polls are about perception, not actual talent. I'm not convinced Auburn should be ranked higher than Arkansas at this point--we just haven't lost yet. And I would take Arkansas over LSU and Arizona anytime. Don't fret, Arky fans--it'll work out by the end of the season and you'll finish a top ten team unless you just implode. It just so happened you got your best QB in ages at the same time Bama has two of the best running backs in the country. You guys deserve all the credit in the world for the game you played Saturday and if Mallett hadn't gotten shaky at the end under pressure things could've been very, very different. I hope ya win 'em all but one, of course!
