If you had a child who wanted to attend a football camp this summer, a boy who dreamed of being the next Amari Cooper, how much of an influence would it be if you knew he'd be instructed by Cooper at the Alabama summer camps of 2014?
Or, given his recent off-the-field headlines, how hesitant would you be to send him to summer camps at Florida State if Jameis Winston were scheduled to be one of the assistants? He is the Heisman trophy winner, after all.
In one of the latest rule changes instituted by the NCAA coaching staffs will be able to employ players from their own team to assist, and receive payment, in the coaching of the youth at summer camps beginning this season. These schools will be prohibited from advertising who will be coaching.
Currently, it's against the NCAA rules for players to be used in advertisements. Yet, some schools do so for ticket sales and other promotions each year.
So far, the NCAA hasn't released their guidelines on how payments can/will be structured.
Considering Alabama's structure on offered scholarships and how many are contingent on how well players perform in summer camps I wonder how many players the staff will choose to use in camps. It certainly gives an attendee a great opportunity to get an impression on how position coaches interact with players on their rosters.
