With our athletics programs so flush with cash, I wonder why we don't give the students a break and drop those fees associated with the programs.

I'm not positive that all the student fees collected go to the purchase of tickets or the ath. dept. even though they are "accounted" for in that manner.

I can't recall which school it was I was researching a few days ago, Oregon maybe, but I was told by one of their employees that even though the student fees show up in ath. dept. revenue all of that money collected went to support/maintain the student rec center.

It would not surprise me if that is at least part of the case with us. I know that the majority of the money it took to build our rec center on campus came from the ath. dept.

I want to say it was six million or so...

While Arkansas is still operating in the black I find it interesting they are as low as they are right now.

During the last few years of his tenure the fan base in Fayetteville began to turn against Frank Broyles (then Athletic Director) because of some of the programs. Granted, he was getting up there in age but a lot of that anxiety stemmed from Nutt's issues and the lack of success on the hardwood when he hired Stan Heath to replace Richardson. (we all know how well the situation with Nolan ended...heck, it was still rearing its ugly head when they hired Mike Anderson recently.)

I bring all of that up because I've seen their bottom line—in terms of profit—drop consistently drop each and every year since 2007 when they hired Jeff Long.
