🏈 NCAA: Masoli ineligible at Ole Miss

If Ole Miss truly “expects” and favorable ruling on their appeal as was reported this morning on ESPN, they have obviously never dealt with the NCAA before. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

That has got to suck for them. To go through the camps with him as the QB and now you have to go back to the other QB and work with him on limited time. Wow.

lol Another one bites the dust.
Wonder if they looked @ Cam Newton as hard?

What does Masoli have to do with Cam Newton? Cam was in trouble a few years ago, chose to leave UF and attend a JUCO and then transferred back to an FBS school. Masoli has had repeated run-ins with the law and was kicked off his team.

Anyway, good for the NCAA. Masoli is talented but is clearly transferring to Ole Miss to continue playing. He doesn't care about an education--this is strictly a move to try and showcase his talent one more time to get into the league.

I guess I'm the only one that thinks this is wrong for the NCAA to do?

Lol @ the silly barner. I supose stealing a laptop and thowring it out the dorm window isn't a criminal act in Lee county. So i guess it has nothing to do with the fact that Masoli & your boy Cam are both criminals. I hope ya'll changed all the locks before that kid got on campus. Don't worry the Bama Facilities staff has already orderd new pad locks for eveything in Braynt-Deny for when ya'll come over this Nov. for your yearly beatdown. So if Cam can't steal anything while he's @ UA you might can keep him out of the Tuscaloosa county jail long enough to make your game @ the "ol gray lady" for the Pizza Bowl. lol
By the way, when did they get internet in the "dirtiest little trailer park on the plaines"? I'm not sure but isn't it sheep shearing time up in Auburn? Ain't you got some cows to tip or goats to heard? you beteer hurry along your loosing daylight.

It is definitely the wrong thing for them to wait until the season has practically started and then come down with this kind of a decision, just as it was wrong to do Alfy Hill the way he was done at a time of the year that greatly restricted his options.

I agree with Bo and Psycho.

The NCAA is no more right when they do this to other schools as when they do it to us.

I don't know if your horrid spelling or ridiculous points are worse.

Look alive sparky, try and stay with me.

The NCAA has not said anything about Masoli's criminal act. They deemed him ineligible because they felt he was transferring as a means of avoiding a FOOTBALL suspension, which he is in fact doing. Cam was charged with stealing a laptop, also note charges were later dropped, and suspended pending the case. Cam chose to leave the program and transfer to a JUCO. Yes, he should've stayed and worked his way back on the team but regardless, Masoli was kicked off the team and Cam was suspended. Masoli is guilty, Cam's charges were dropped. The NCAA said in several pieces I've read they were suspending him for violating the point of the exception. Masoli is clearly transferring to avoid the punitivite action at Oregon. There is a vast difference between his situation and Cam's.

AlabamaAubKiller, if you're going to try and be sarcastic and talk down to someone in an insulting manner, learn to use spell check. Surely anyone can see the irony of someone attempting to insult someone for their school affiliation and act as if there is a vast intellectual divide when they cannot even spell "suppose" or the name of your team's stadium. I've been nothing but respectful and have even been complimentary of your team--the insults are senseless but if you want to continue trying to take pot shots two can play that game, old friend.

I just don't see it as being that wrong. Masoli planned on staying at Oregon, which would include academically, until he was kicked off the team. He isn't transferring for his education. He's using this as a loophole to continue playing this season. They should've made this decision sooner but I just don't see that it is as poor a decision as some (in the media) have written it to be.

Indeed.

But it's totaly okay with the NCAA for a guy who's running 2nd string to transfer to a school he will be the starter?

Well, no, they make those guys sit out a year too, unless they go to FCS. The point of the rule is so that student-athletes who transfer to a different school for educational reasons can do so without sitting out. Masoli was trying to use this rule as a loophole to avoid disciplinary measures at Oregon, there was plainly no particular reason for him to sign up for parks management at Mississippi other than because it wasn't offered at Oregon and therefore could be used as a loophole to continue football, which is what he's really interested in.

The interesting thing will be how precisely the regulation is worded. If the rule states that the athlete must be transferring for academic reasons, or allows for NCAA review to determine the above, the NCAAA has a strong case. If it says unequivocally 'a grad student with remaining athletic eligibility may transfer without missing a year if the course he enrols upon is not offered at the original school' then I can't see how the spirit of the law is relevant when the letter of the law is so plain.

Don't confuse poor typing skills with bad spelling.
And just becuse the charges were dismissed mean in barner speak that a crime was never commited i supose.
A thief is still a thief.

By the way how's that whole Peoples Championship working out for ya'll?
It's plain to see that Uncle Jimmy didn't run out of recruiting money when he bought all those fake rings. Seems the Yeller Feller still has enough cash left in the bank to send out plenty of those Pre-Paid Wll-Mart Visia Cards to ensure you guys have a fair recrruiting class.
