National Board Certified Teacher

I just found out last Friday that I "passed" and am now a National Board Certified Teacher. I have been on cloud nine since then. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, it takes one to three years to certify. It involves videotaping lessons, analysis of those lessons, analysis of student work, and a thorough description (with proof) of things you do to influence student learning besides teaching in the classroom. Not only does this give me national recognition, it also means a nice raise for the next 10 years until it's time to recertify.

Congrats, it is quite an accomplishment. We have three out of 400 teachers in our school system that have National Board Certification. Georgia used to recognize this with an additional 10% supplement based on state salary level. The economy has pushed that aside but those with certification were grandfathered in. Hopefully, when/if the economy returns this will again regain this deserved supplement.
