Alabama basketball coach Nate Oats on Thursday took a swing at peers calling for a COVID-19 pause to the young season.

The second-year coach was asked his opinion on comments from coaches like Rick Pitino and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski who suggested why competition continues as the pandemic numbers are surging nationwide.

“That’s a good question,” Oats answered. “Can I ask you something? Do you think if Coach K hadn’t lost the two non-conference games at home he’d still be saying that?”

Shot across the bow. I respect coach K. I was a little suspicious when he made his comments about playing during the Covid mess. But I’m surprised Oats came out and said it publicly. I don’t see coach K as a quitter but I don’t know the guy.

How many athletes have died while playing would be my question to that guy, whoever he is. Out of all this tracing and positive testing, how many of these athletes have just felt like crap and had it bad? What about those considering sporting events as super spreader events, is there proof to outbreaks throughout the country due to these games?
