šŸˆ "Move the SEC offices out of Birmingham!" ~ LSU fans, among others. I found an interesting side note this morning about the move to Birmingham.

While reading the article from The Advocate this morning about the White suspension, and possible white out, I decided to skim over the comments to see what was being said about the article. One of the comments caught my eye and raised the question, "is this true?" What it revealed I found a bit amusing.

The SEC office has to be somewhere. I think I was told that it was in Atlanta at one time, and it was widely bruited that Bobby Dodd and Georgia Tech got special treatment.
The SEC office was in Atlanta at one time? Dodd getting special treatment?

Err, no.

I knew that the commissioners position was created in the early 40's before I started looking at what he was saying here. I also knew that the original commissioner was the governor of Mississippi and he was in Jackson. So, it left me wondering at what point did the office move to Birmingham?

Was that a move started by someone with Alabama ties? Ah, but no. It wasn't a Bama led move. In fact, as it ends up, the very thing that LSU fans are complaining about happened on the watch of one Bernie Moore who had the office for 18 years.

And just where did Bernie come from? He is former athlete from ...

Louisiana State University.

You nailed it. Specifics are hard to come by, but here's a pretty good article on the history of the conference:

https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/sec-football/brief-history-southeastern-conference/

and specifically to your point:

Not long after that, the conference decided to bring on its first commissioner. In August 1940, Martin S. Conner, the former governor of Mississippi and an Ole Miss alum, was chosen for the role. He stewarded the conference until 1945, with a gap of a few years between him and the conference’s second commissioner, former LSU coach Bernie Moore. In 1948, Moore took over the job. He moved the conference’s offices to Birmingham, Ala., where they still are today.

I'm thinking about starting a gofundme to put billboards all over the state of Louisiana letting them know their own coach is responsible.

Man, I made it through high school, college and grad school before there was such a thing as google.

Now it's like having all the libraries in the world at your fingertips. Damned kids these days got it made.

And stay off my lawn.

50+, you got that right. These folks also conveniently forget, before Coach Saban got here we were mediocre at best for a LOT of years. I've been a fan since the run of 78-79, when I first got introduced to college football at the age of 11-12. Now I just turned 50 so I've seen and cheered through many years of 6-6 and being excited we qualified for a bowl. SEC home office wasn't doing much for us back then.

They're all mad now because they're sucking hind teat and there ain't a damned thing they can do about it. Except whine.

.....makes them feel better...

It really doesn't, though. @Skipz touches on a little bit of the why. It's so easy to get news, reactions, and read others thoughts today that they are literally feeding their own anger.

It's feeding the confidence of Alabama fans each and every time they see those billboards.

The only people who are feeling better are found in the SEC offices. They're now getting a good laugh for a day or two as they drive to work.

I do love all the irony found in so many stories. I saw a LSU fan make the comment they can't afford to pay players as much as Bama. But, within 24 hours or so, they can come up with enough money to lease all these billboards in Birmingham.

Trust me when I say ... it makes me feel pretty good to hear another conspiracy theory and then agreeing with them.

@TerryP Yep.....i love it... just send them some Ritz and cheese to go with their whine...
And played NC game in New orlean....lsu spitting distance....
And then in Atlanta...UGA spitting distance....
Bball tournament in Nashville ....ok thats Vandy..doesnt matter...
Tennessee and lsu boards are always full of ....Bama paying players....cheating...getting sec officials love.... ( remember the year with 8 teams having open dates before playing Bama...2010 i think...sure is a lot of love)....
Nick Having Emmert ? In his pocket ( from lsu days)....
And am sure AU has same stories....
