šŸ’¬ Morgan Wallen concert in BDS this Saturday night...

I wouldn't walk across the street to hear most current musical acts (yes they are musical acts masquerading as musicians). For me that is not unique to now as I have never followed music produced for the masses. Very few blead over to where I show some appreciation for their music like the beatles. Most other have no use for it.

What's really interesting
My great g son is a hugh 60s music fan. Knows the songs. The lyrics. The groups.

we went to see the "64 Beatles tribute ".
So many very young boys n girls there standing and dancing and singing along.
As he was ( as i was)

kind of incredible when you think of such an era of music.

There is some great music from late 50's and early 80's. But the music from the 60's through the 70's can't be beat. This is my opinion, while others have their own.

Have any of you watched youtube videos of reactors listening to music and telling their opinions of the music they listen to? Most, if not all, are younger people, and most can't believe the music from 40 to 65 years ago is so much better than the contemporary music of today. The voice talent as well as the instrumentation blows them away.

I believe we had WSGN on, accidentally, playing oldies and we listened a while in the past month. Otherwise, my wife is an XM listener and I still stream the free version of Pandora through my phone in the truck and golf cart and through the app on the TV in the home. I told myself that I was going to buy the ad-free Pandora/Spotify/Apple Music to develop playlists, but I've thumbed up/down my stations enough that they play what I like. Looking at my recent stations, I'm Turnpike Troubadours, Chris Stapleton, The Dead South, Trampled by Turtles, KIDZ BOP Kids (for the grandkids), Mamas & Papas (for the wife), The Guess Who (for us both, has a heavy mix of America in it), Robert Earl Keen, then Andy Williams, so I know that was Christmas.

I've listened to less than a half dozen podcast episodes, most were Murdaugh related. They're just too slow for me, it's like listening to an episode of Dateline.
Now I consider REK to be damn near pure country!

Who is REK? For that matter who is Morgan Wallen? When I say I do not follow popular music I am being serious. I assume if it appeals to the masses it is dumbed down because the main interest is to make money not create great music. There are exceptions but few...

Robert Earl Keen is DEFINITELY not popular music. A VERY talented singer- songwriter from Texas. Been around 30 years or so

I do want to add, I'm glad UA held the Morgan Wallen concert. I have several friends who went and really, really enjoyed it. He's not really on my list of people I listen to, so I had no desire to go. But it was good for UA (and a big boost for the local economy) and was an overall success from what I gather. It'll open the door for other similar events. Who knows, maybe next time it'll be George Strait. And if so, count me in.

The best concert in AL last night was in Huntsville… Only it should have been ZZ Top opening for the great Dwight Yoakam…

Side note: Orion Amphitheater is really, really, nice. Best outdoor venue I’ve ever seen a concert at.

I work about a quarter of a mile from the Orion.... Been a great venue for Huntsville. There have been a lot of popular acts come through like James Taylor. James Taylor is one of those people I would listen to that appeals to the masses. Most not so much so...

Curious me ...

I'd like to know ticket sales. I've seen 18 million bantered about. I have a hard time with that number considering the seats that were closed off. Vivid Seats reports $125 average...at 75K that's still less than 10 million. Those folks have also thrown out the number of 8 million to the "funds." I have a hard time with that number as well.

My understanding is estimates were less than half that, even if things went really well. UA controlled parking/pricing and got the profits from concession sales and a little % from the merch deal. I think ticket sales, other than UA controlled premium upgrade areas all went to Wallen, Langley, etc. UA already had a good idea going in based on estimates. Parking = $$$. Premium areas = $$$. Expenses/payroll = $$$. The big opportunity though was hoping people would eat and drink in the stadium and buy a shit ton of merch.

Kid from church took his girlfriend to the Wallen concert last night. Said they got pretty soaked but thankfully had some ponchos. Other than the rain, said it was a great show.

That matches up with what I've seen and heard too. Several friends went and really enjoyed it. Said the whole production was next level. When I was driving back from Huntsville last night... around 2:30 am it was still bumper to bumper on the other side of the interstate from McCalla to at least Vance with cars headed out of Tuscaloosa. Football traffic on steroids.

My g-g-d will tell our daughter that '60 music is Tic Tok music. @Brandon Van de Graaff you did right going that far to hear real Country.
