| FTBL More coaching casualties: Gaily, Roof,

Gailey's overrated. I've never cared for him and am not surprised he got canned. Roof is just in a bad situation. No one not named Spurrier can possibly win at that school.

The Bower firing shocks the heck out of me though. That guy IS Southern Miss. He's been as much the face of the school as the football program for a long time. He's one of those few coaches you see these days that has devoted his life to a program. His kids have attended school there and while Bower has been named as a candidate for jobs in the past he's always bowed out in favor of staying at USM and building that program. He seems like a good person as well as a good coach and I hope he decides to pursue a job elsewhere and is succesful.

I'm with you Chop. The Bower firing stuns me.

I think Gailey is a decent coach, but he is at the Vanderbilt of the SEC. You are not going to win that conference with a group of players that actually understand quantam physics. Gone are the days of being an super duper academic institution and a football powerhouse. (Notre Dumb has not figured this out yet and I hope they never do)

Wow the Bower firing is a surprise. Maybe they want change for the sake of change?
If nothing else the guy was solid.

I too am shocked at the Southern Miss decision. I think it's true to say that S. Miss wasn't moving forward in it's progress, but they weren't moving backward either.

To me, this says that all the programs in major college football believe they need to have a winner. Some schools have delusional expectations of success based on no previous evidence of it.

Ole Miss and S. Miss are great examples. For that matter, GaTech hasn't been truly competitive on a national scale since 1990 or so.

Heck, I guess the same could maybe be said for us.

I'm no expert on things in MS, but wouldn't it be interesting to see Bower go to Ole Miss?

I was just wondering the same thing.

What do the folks at USM expect? 17 years, getting them out of everybody wanting them for homcoming, producing probably the best team in the state of Mississippi, and from what I've seen doing it all with class. He had several opportunities to get better jobs at larger programs, but he chose to stay at his almamater. I hope he gets a job somewhere that plays USM and he beats the crp out of them everytime.

I'm shocked as well. I believe the administration's seen some other mid-majors come out of nowhere and excel. I believe they're disillusioned.

I notice USM plays aubrun next year. I wonder if they agreed to a one game deal or if aubrun agreed to go to Hattiesburg?

RTR,

Tim

The expectations are great at USM because of the success of, uh....Jeff Bower. Look for the same thing to happen someday at USF. You have the same situation there with Leavitt.

Two games, both at Auburn.

Just heard on the radio that there is a presser scheduled at 6:30 tonight in Fayetteville. Speculation is that Nutt will not be back.
