what is the big deal about taking your helmet off?.. i just saw cincy's tight end catch a pass which they called a touchdown.. he got up and walked off the field. he took his helmet off midstride as he was crossing the boundry line and got a flag.. he wasn't even celebrating. he was heading back to the sidelines.. the funny thing is that a review of the play placed the ball on the 1 foot line. so after the penalty they got the ball on the fifteen..

basically he got called for celebrating a touchdown that didn't happen, and he wasn't even celebrating.. he just took his helmit off on his way back to the bench..

didnt see it but that sounds like a horrible penalty. the thing about keeping ur helmet on is more of safety thing rather than a celebrating thing. they want players to keep their helmets on at all times while on the field in case anything was to happen like someone comes over to sucker punch you or something.

I think that the taking off of the headgear on the field is by rule an automatic unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. I noticed that just a couple of seconds after he had taken it off and just before he left the field a teammate came running over to him and didn't seem to be celebrating. Perhaps he was telling him to put the helmet back on.

have some self-control. leave your helmet on. then you won't get a penalty. it's amazing to me that these guys that play the game day in and day out still don't know the rules.

dont mean to highjack the thread but last night i finally got to watch the Nick Saban Show.

when they showed the highlight of Ingrams TD run...the ref in the endzone never takes his eye off Ingram...even turns and walks towards him and the rest of the team as they are celebrating to get a better look or a better listen to what they are saying. If you get a chance and still have it recorded go back and watch....very obvious he was just waiting and wanting to throw a flag.

it's getting rediculous!!!!

They do that every TD no matter the school. They basically satnd and then tell the guys that enough get going to the sidelines. This was prob why Green was flagged. The ref told them to get going and they continued to celebrate. Was it a bad call YES!!!! but this is my belief on why that flag coming out. I think the refs are there close to warn the guys before throwing the flag if at all possible.

Guess Iv'e never paid it enough attention until all this recent stuff...

last nights penalty against cincy was strange because the guy was not celebrating he was just leaving the field.. he literally took his helmet off a half a step from the sidelines. i bet if you watch closely, alot of players begin removing their helmets as they are leaving the field..

also his ear pad or chin strap was lying on the ground. he was in the process of bending down and picking it up when the flag was thrown..

If you do go back to watch this. Go and check one of the tackler that McClain had behind the line. I think it was in the 3rd. He raise his hand toward the fans. The ref. start talking to him right away.

yeah this seems more sensible to me
I don't think they're really out to get people, unless of course they make those "cheap" calls against the Tide :panic:

What gets on my nerves about the A.J. Green situation is the ref was telling him to get off the field, and it seemed he was trying to but his team mates were flooding over him to the point he couldn't even get around or through them. That wasn't A.J.'s fault. He wasn't doing anything excessive. It was the rest of the team around him.
