ESPN is reporting that there are substantive rumors that have Tampa Bay talking with Monte Kiffin to hire him as head coach of the Buccs after the team fired John Gruden.

Just heard it on ESPN radio. Nothing official yet.

Hahaha I thought Raheem Morris was a lock for that job in Tampa. Espn reads to many message boards.

LOL yea I've been seeing Raheem Morris all morning on ESPN. Even their website has had it on all morning...although, I would love it if Monte would go back to Tampa

Yeah, they just had the press conference and it was indeed Rahim Morris that got the job. He sounded pretty impressive in the presser.

I don't know what the heck I heard this morning on ESPN. Maybe I just heard something and misunderstood what was being said.

*slaps self*

i think kiffen has brought the intangables back to tennessee.. he is deffinately a heavy hitting recruiter.. big name coordinators... all the excitment that bama had when saban arrived...

BUT.............

can he win?... that's the million dollar question that millions of dollars cannot buy..

If your assistant coaches are bigger names than your head coach, chances are very likely you don't have a head coach.

I'd love to know what intangibles Kiffin has brought back to UT?

Do we know this yet? I don't know, but has he ever had to recruit against other seasoned recruiters for those who will fill out his roster?

Monte may indeed be all that Tennessee hopes he will be, but from where I sit I see only a football celebrity as of right now.

I believe he was talking about Lane being a "heavy hitting recruiter."

That said, and even though Lane spent a season or two as recruiting coordinator for USC, right now I look at coaches coming out from that system in this light.

We all talk about QB's and how they are "products of the system."

When I look at coaches from USC that have moved on, I see coaches like Chow, Ogeron, etc., who did well at SC, but when put in different circumstances the results didn't translate.

Is that the case with Lane? ^^CO

Sorry, I thought we were talking about Monte in the Monte to Tampa thread. :?

Isn't it just possible that Monte Kiffin got out of Tampa because he saw the writing on the wall? Because he knew Gruden was toast and that he wouldn't get the job himself? Funny how Vol fans were all excited several weeks ago when Gruden was in Knoxville for homecoming.

As long as they're still selling Ford Pintos in Knoxville, we have nothing to worry about. Saban is selling Mercedes in Tuscaloosa.
