He was injured early on in camp I believe (dont remember the injury) but he has been shown on the sidelines numerous times that I can remember this year. I personally thought Bowman would be the guy to step in and is nearly the same size as Julio but seems more like a rangy and athletic receiver where as Julio is strong and physical.
I know he was in early in the year as I am sure everyone saw when he crossed up an assignment near the goal line and collided with another receiver. Since then I dont recall seeing him and assumed a red shirt was coming.
Kelly came in injured. His entire senior season he was hampered by his hip. It was bad enough that he ended up re-injuring it just during rehab. After the season (high school) he thought he was close to being back to full speed. But, as it ended up, surgery was required.
I want to say it was at least a month after he reported before he was even ready to begin conditioning drills—maybe the first part of July?
I know he's been on the sidelines. But, according to game participation stats he hasn't been on the field in 2009.
He's been running scout team work, imitating different wide receiver threats. When we were practicing for Va. Tech, it was pretty clear he was headed for a 'shirt.
As to the first part of this thread...
I'm not sure where the idea of him being the guy that mirrors Julio in his freshman year comes from. I'm not saying you didn't hear it. I know you didn't catch that here—at least from one of the staff members here.
Honestly, as to the recruits coming in with him, in my eyes he fell into the third spot. By that, I mean it was much easier for me to see Bowman, then Norwood, getting playing time before Kendall.
Just as a fwiw, Norwood hasn't seen the field. Bowman has, in three games so far: Florida Int., N. Texas and Arkansas.
