Tragic news to report at Alabama.

During Nick Saban’s Monday press conference, he announced that assistant coach Mike Locksley’s son was tragically killed.

ā€œOn another note, Mike Locksley, our receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator, his son was killed. I just want everyone to understand that our thoughts and prayers go out to Mike and his family. We will do everything we can to support him during this time.ā€

Saban didn’t give any additional details.

According to ABCNews, Meiko Locksley was shot and killed in Columbia, Maryland. According to Locksley’s official bio on Alabama’s website, he has a son named Meiko.

Alabama hired Locksley in January as a full-time offensive assistant coach. He spent the 2016 season as an offensive analyst.

Thoughts and prayers going up for Coach Locksley and his family. There is no value placed on the human life anymore. One of my former students is in jail right now facing capital murder charges for shooting another man outside the victims home. 26 years old and will receive a life without parole or even death by lethal injection sentence. Sadly, I pointed him out as a 9 year old and said that he would never make it, either die at the hands of someone or be in prison for the same.

I would like to say that my family or heritage is the kind that believe in an eye for an eye and if this happened to one of my family we would go all "next of kin" on their ass. God have mercy on whoever did it because we sure as hell wouldn't.

I'm deeply saddened to hear the news about Mike Locksley's son.

Just wanted to vent here. So here it is.

On Monday, September 4 Alabama Football Coach Nick Saban informed the media that Alabama assistant coach Mike Locksley’s son had been killed over the weekend. Moments later, Alabama Athletics confirmed the death of Meiko Locksley age 25.

ā€œOur receiver coach and co-offensive coordinator Mike Locksley’s son was killed and I just want everyone to understand that our prayers go out to him and his wife and we’ll do everything we can to support him and his family,ā€ Said Saban on Monday.

As the news sunk in, I felt rattled, shaken, and utterly sad for Mike Locksley and his family. The suffering they must be feeling can only be unbearable.

Eight years ago, I watched Meiko attend La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Locksley family made a brief stop in New Mexico when Mike coached the Lobos from 2009 to 2011. The lanky 6-foot-1, 170-pound quarterback was very respectful and quite the athlete. I remember him throwing a score or two that season of 2009 for the Bears.

The news comes nearly eight years after I had uploaded a highlight tape of him during high school. Over the weekend, ABC2news.com reports that Meiko was found dead outside his home in Maryland. According to the report, Howard County Police say they found the 25-year old Meiko Locksley around 10:30 p.m. Sunday suffering from a gunshot wound.

I’ll remember his athleticism, his smile, and I’ll always think of him in a positive light. Losing a child is something no one should have to ever face, deep down it’s everyone’s worst fear.

To the Locksley family, our prayers go out to you. Nothing more can be said.

the report (video) says son, but the headline and print say grandson.....which is it?

i mean, that's a pretty damn important thing that you NEED to get right.
