I took my nephew to Parkway Place Mall (Huntsville) today to get a mini helmet signed by McElroy. He was a pretty personable guy considering the amount of people that were there. He actually took time and spoke to people, smiled for pictures, etc. He was certainly a far cry from Cody last year who could hardly put his phone down long enough to interact with the fans that stood in line for hours.

I was also shocked at the number of people that were there. Considering today was the second or third signing he's had in Huntsville, it was a pretty big turn out.

IMO gmac deserves every ounce of recognition he get's..and then some..

cool that you got your little one his autograph.. my daughter would haved loved that.. she sported her #12 jersey every friday at school this fall..

I'm not a friend of Cody, nor have I met him, but from what I have read and seen of him out and about town I suspect that he is one of those guys who is honestly uncomfortable in large public situations.

You have to figure that he has spent half his life with people looking at him as if he worked somewhere between the bearded lady and the sword swallower at the carnaval.

Its one thing to play football for fans who watch from the far side of the fence. Its another to have them in your face again and again for hours. We accept the possibility of Greg's brilliance, but not the chance that a player could be shy among strangers.

If someone was indeed uncomfortable in those situations wouldn't "hiding behind a cell phone conversation" be exactly what that would look like?

He didn't seem shy, he seemed disinterested. He also had friends standing behind him that he kept turning around and talking to. Smiling, laughing, joking with everyone except the people paying for him to write his name on something. Perhaps this is harsh, but if he was uncomfortable around crowd, perhaps signing a contract to complete a four hour autograph session wasn't the best use of his time?

The shy thing I get. My employer brought Carnell Williams in a few years ago for a three-ish hour signing. He was noticeably uncomfortable but would still speak, it was just sparringly. Cody barely spoke, even when spoken to. Perhaps I am wrong but by several accounts, including what I saw, he just acted like he didn't want to be there.

Regardless, McElroy was a class-act Saturday

Gmac is a pretty nice fellow.... I met him last year in a restaurant, right after they landed in Ttown from Pasadena.... He walked by me and my friend, and my friend goes "hey greg" like we were best friends with him... He comes over shakes our hands, we tell him congratulations on the championship and ask how his ribs were feeling ( remember he broke them like during the Iron Bowl) and he told us they were just a little sore, with a smirk on his face.... But it was nice of him to acknowledge us during a time when a lot of people were probably going to be bombarding him for autographs, pictures, etc....

GMac has aspirations of going into politics...it makes sense that he's better at shaking hands, chit chat, etc.

LBS/Duder description of Mt. Cody's behavior - LBS theory seems plausible to me. Even if he did turn around and joke/laugh with his friends, he was possibly turning to people he felt more comfortable with (his friends) in the middle of a situation that was probably pretty intimidating (hundreds of adoring strangers).

I could see him in the NFL for a few years, then going into politics. Using the NFL as somewhat of a platform.

Where did you get that? His studies as an undergrad were in finance, business admin, and his graduate is in sports admin.

He indicated in this piece with ESPN (Rhodes less traveled) that politics is something he's at least considering:

"… I just want to be able to have a full understanding of which direction I want to go. Do I want to go into politics? Do I want to be the next commissioner of the NFL? Do I want to be a GM?"

That's about the only republican/democrat i would vote for.

Which is why i don't vote anymore. I hate both parties.
But i'd vote for Greg regardless of party. Becuse i know his inteligence is high,
he's of high moral charecter, and i belive him to be an honest man. I find him trust worthy
in the way he represents himself. And as long as he can match up with me on 50& of the issues he'd get my vote.
I find it hard that the kid won't be a success in whatever he decides to do.
