Twitter is officially blowing up after Iowa State’s stunning win over No. 2 Oklahoma State. Here’s what Alabama offensive lineman Barrett Jones just tweeted:
ā€œAbsolute mayhem in hotel capstone. Everyone in the halls hugging each other. Now WE control our destiny!ā€
Austin Sheppard confirmed that description:
ā€œHotel just eruptedā€

So did Brad Smelley:
ā€œIf y’all could see our hotel right now haha the adrenalines pumpin, now that the excitements slowing, we gotta finish this season strong!ā€
And Vinnie Sunseri added the following:
ā€œWe told everyone to believe!!!! Roll Cyclones Roll!!! We gotta take care of business now!!!!!ā€
Here’s what former LSU player Phelon Jones (transfer to Alabama) tweeted:
ā€œI can only thank God for a second chance at the national championshipā€
Iron Bowl now has national title implications for a third straight season.- From The Daily Bama Blog

I doubt overconfidence is gonna be a problem now. If anything i believe they now come out for this game and teh Iron Bowl with even more to prove to make sure Oregon comes nowhere near #2. I didnt think i could be more excited for an Iron Bowl as i was for this one but now i am officially more excited

I totally didn't expect Oklahoma State to be challenged until they played Oklahoma. But you never know.

Of course, Bama can't take anything for granted today vs Georgia Southern or next week vs Auburn. But if they take care of business, there is a good chance they could still play for the title. Their only loss was a three-point defeat in overtime against the #1 team in the country.

I still don't think we are in control here. I can see Oregon jumping us if they put it on USC today, especially after putting the smack down on Stanford last week. Plus, they have a Pac XII championship game to play and possibly win which adds to their resume'. We need Oregon to lose and then maybe we get a second shot. It's going to be controversial if LSU wins out and we don't have that SEC championship game on the books. Just my 2 cents worth.

^ oregon has put 40-70 points on everyone they've played this year, with the exception of LSU, whom they lost to. that clearly says a lot about their schedule. so considering there is no rule about having to win your conference, the BCS would be throwing a huge "f*k you" to everyone if they did that. i will officially become pro-playoff, i'll say that much.

True, but Oregon's arguement is that the LSU game was the first of the season and they are a better team now while Bama is what we are at this point. Who knows, we will have to wait and see. I think Oregon is the only team that could jump us though, I don't see Oklahoma doing so at all.

This is no longer in play thanks to USC, but I did want to address this arguement.

Issue #1: The "first game of the season" arguement is that that door has to swing equally for buth Oregon and Bama. Two months after LSU beat Oregon, the Ducks want to say that they had improved and that they could have taken the Tigers. Interesting in that the BCS NC game is 2 months after Bama beat them, except Bama can't use the exact same arguement? That's stupid.

Issue #2: What Bama can account for that Oregon can't is that Bama faced LSU with both its starting QBs, not just its back up who had a week's notice to get ready after JJ took the lion's share or snaps during the off season. We played them closer when they had a full roster.

Issue #3: Oregon had all off-season to get ready, Bama had two weeks during the season. The unanswered question is not if Oregan can win given months to get ready, its can Bama win if given the same advantage that Oregan had.

Issue #4: The "first game of the season" argument seeks to address the question of being ready, one the LSU answered week one. Bama was ready for its week one game, but Oregan does not seem to be willing to pay the cost for failure to prepare...but they want to play that card for the first week in November.

The Point: The goal is to get the best teams, and in this case the best between one-loss teams (now two loss). WHEN someone loses is not a measure of their quality. If logic were true, the loser of the BCS NC game would be considered the worst team in America by virtue of winnin last vice first. They are not arguing the correct point; destracted from the point...which seems to be their nature noting the uniform tradition of not having a tradition.

I have never been a proponent of the first game of the season arguement, I was just pointing out what I was hearing the talking heads spew about Oregon. I don't think that the "heads" wanted to see a Bama / LSU rematch but did want to see the Oregon one. Can't explain it other than Bama and SEC hate. It is all moot now and thank goodness, bedlam is going to rule in the BCS this week. If Arkansas beats LSU we will really have a mess on our hands. :)
