🏈 Marlon Humphrey recruitment?

I was wondering what people thought of Florida State's win when it comes to Marlon Humphrey. Think it moved them to #1 for him, or do you think Alabama has an edge due to need and possible immediate playing time?

I have went back and forth on Marlon. First I thought it was a sure thing because of his dad then I got nervous then I started to get confident again but after hearing how confident FSU ppl are about him its got me nervous again especially after Tony Brown committed to us. Brown is great and I think he will be a great player but I really think Humphrey can be a game changer, dude pretty much had his half of the field on LOCKDOWN all year.

If Humphrey commits to Bama he can win football and track titles AT ALABAMA. That's right, a track title at Bama. With Brown. Those two will make the difference. Don't let anyone kid you, track has about 20 events, but a few select individuals can win a TEAM national title. He and Brown will get points immediately.

It would be pretty awesome to win a track Championship at Alabama. It would be even better because LSU and Arkansas are so good when it comes to outdoor and indoor track.

I also think he was a lock early on, but it seems to me he's getting further and further out of our reach. Obviously that's just speculation on my behalf, but I just haven't heard much about him and us lately. Thanks for the input.

Outdoors, Arkansas is not what they were under McDonnell. Not even close. LSU, Florida, Texas A and M - still really good. Arkansas used distance (mainly), while all the others utilize sprints and jumps. Bama had a head coach who was a throws expert in the past. It's hard to get enough points to win with that specialty. Bama has had a gold medalist hurdler, and that certainly doesn't hurt recruiting these two guys. I'm thinking Humphrey is like Jameis Winston (who put heavy emphasis on baseball) in that if Bama can't get him where he needs to go in track (in his perception) he'll go elsewhere. I really have no doubt he can get to a gold in track if he attends Bama and has the genetic talent to make it otherwise.

I'm 50-50 honestly. FSU winning the national title isn't helping either. I hope he commits, this guy looks like the real deal and we need help at CB. Eddie Jackson plus Humphrey would be pretty damn good to say.

Maybe I am just naive, but I think he is a lock & his announcement has been delayed strategically. CNS has a knack for that.

I thought that exact thing and asked CNS that question a few years ago at the Coaches show at BWW. He said that he does not influence announcement when, where, etc. Said that the recruitment process is a once in a lifetime deal for these guys and wants them to be sure that Bama is where they want to be and that he does not try to influence that in any way. He also went on to explain that guys that leave HS early to come to college (like the 6 that started this week) are not influenced by him or his staff at all. Says that was a decision he and his family should make. You are committing to give up a lot if you decide to do that and does not want them to feel like they missed out on anything if they decide to do that. (ie finishing their senior year, prom, etc)

On a side note, I think the tug of Alabama will be too much and Humphrey will be in crimson. I remember some things about when his older brother was recruited and Terry made reference to him not having his head screwed on right. He got to Arkansas and it showed. If memory serves me correct, I think TP has made reference to the fact that Marlon is a little more level headed and seems to have his crap together a bit more. I may be imagining this, but I think I remember reading that.

Reminds me of the story Jeremiah Castille told about Simeon being recruited. Said he and Simeon were getting ready to go for a run the morning after Saban came for an in home visit. Jeremiah said that morning Simeon told his dad he made a decision and was going to UA. Jeremiah stated he was somewhat surprised because Saban made a great pitch and was an awesome recruiter.........it was enough to make him (Jeremiah) willing to go to LSU.

I'm nervous. I think it's 50/50. It's really a no lose situation for him. He will do well either place and be playing on a big stage either place.

For us. Getting him along with Brown could make our DB one of the best. They would push each other in both football and track.

Come on down. BAMA needs another Humphrey

It would be great to get him, but I wish we could just get a sure fire, can't miss, SUPER big time QB prospect. In today's game, if you have a GREAT quarterback you can do amazing things. With all the incredible talent we have on both sides of the ball, if we had a can't miss, NFL first round type prospect...like an Andrew Luck or someone like that, then we would be very hard to stop.

So I guess he does take the track and field sport seriously. Speed like that is known for playing in the state of Florida, so it would be marvelous to have him in Tuscaloosa. We have a lot going for us. The rest of the country acts like we're in tatters after losing two games, TWO, and our offensive coordinator, but I have no doubts that our school and the coaching staff will create a championship environment and have only the best on the sidelines when it comes to coaches and players.

We had a conversation about this a few months ago on the recruiting forum.

Marlon takes track more seriously than he does football. Two completely different mind-sets when approaching competition.

He definitely does take his track ALOT more seriously than football. I was following him on Twitter; I know it sounds creepy, and he blocked me because I sent something to him to the effect of all of the 1st round draft picks BAMA had produced under CNS after someone posted about track.

I was just looking on Rivals and it says he was being recruited by Nussmeire. I understand they could just be putting a name in there to fill that hole on the website, but do any of y'all think that could play any kind of role in whether he'll sign with us? I'm pretty sure Coach Saban is one of the best in the business, but just wasn't sure if his recruiter was leaving if that could hurt.

It's not really a case of them plugging a name in a blank as much as it is who has that territory. Nuss was a guy that recruited around the Birmingham area...I believe he was also our West Coast guy.
