Mark Ingram reaches $16 million contract agreement to stay with New Orleans Saints

Running back Mark Ingram isn't going anywhere. Alabama's 2009 Heisman Trophy winner reached an agreement with the New Orleans Saints for a four-year, $16 million contract extension, according to a variety of media outlets, including NFL.com.

Ingram was scheduled to become a free agent at 3 p.m. CST Tuesday after spending his first four seasons in New Orleans.

Ingram completed his four-year, $7,416,750 rookie contract with the New Orleans Saints by turning in a Pro Bowl season in 2014. Even though he missed three games because of a broken bone in his hand, Ingram ran for 964 yards and nine touchdowns on 226 carries and caught 29 passes for 145 yards in 2014. His rushing yardage was the most for a New Orleans player since 2006.

The Saints could have had Ingram under contract for 2015 already. Almost a year ago, New Orleans declined its fifth-year option on the contract that Ingram signed after being selected 28th in the 2011 NFL Draft. Picking up the option would have cost the Saints $5 million for the 2015 season.

The Saints agreed to retain Ingram after releasing veteran running back Pierre Thomas earlier this week.

In his four seasons with the Saints, Ingram has played in 50 games. He has 2,426 yards and 20 touchdowns on 582 carries and 53 receptions for 288 yards.

I found the image below surfing around this morning. It's a breakdown of contracts--top paid running backs for 2015. Mark is listed and, of note, we see Jimmy Sexton is doing his work with Trent's deal. (I don't know what his status is with the Colts today.)

I was so hoping we would grab him but .. alas, not meant to be. Best of luck to him with the rest of his career.

Eagles appear to have bigger issues now. Guess Chip Kelly didn't like any of the skilled offensive players. Gotta love free agency.

Things could get interesting during the draft, I still wonder if he's just going to be traded away during the draft. Although I'm not sure what he'd be worth having missed 39 of 80 starts due to injury. This alone makes you question the trade.

It's certainly a turnover of historic proportions. It sucks to lose our big guys and see these baffling trades but I'm gonna wait out FA and the draft to fully get a view of what direction we are going in. We have not won a playoff game since 2008 so it's not like what we were doing/what players we had was working much. I am willing to see what the plan is. Every coach wants to craft "his" team and Chip inherited an Andy team. Let the CHIPS fall where they may ..

Still frustrating as hell ..
