šŸˆ Malzan to Coach Ark St.

No serious AU fans are demanding Trooper take over.

As far as I know, Yeldon is still solid. We aren't going to stop running the ball.

According to Bruce Feldman, Malzahn said he felt he needed to take a HC gig in order to be considered for a bigger job. It is no secret he was passed over for the jobs this year and that his lack of HC experience is a contributing factor. Call it spin if you like, Feldman isn't wearing Auburn boxers under his suit.

The manner that all this happened is the shocking part to me. There were murmurings yesterday afternoon and then BAM, he's gone. The team was at a team function last night when the news broke.

I've heard something about Trooper claiming "OC or he's out". Nothing I would call credible though. I would like to know who AU fans think will get the position (or at least who they think will be sought after).

So many names have come up and who knows what to believe? One AU premium writer said Greg Davis has been contacted. Chad Morris would've gotten a call had he not just inked a huge deal. I'd like to see Rhett ' (Samford) get a look. I want to run a similar system but I want a guy who will put the damn QB under center other than to run the same quick pitch for three years!

Davis would be a good hire--it's clear he wasn't Texas' issue on O. A ton of guys have been mentioned though.

Davis would be interesting. I agree 100% that he was not the problem at Texas, and he would probably do well with the guys AU has. Thanks for the insight.

Malzhan was a very successful high school coach in Springdale, Arkansas several years ago. Springdale is on the northwest side of the state from ASU. If memory serves me, he left Springdale and came to the University of Arkansas as the OC. Malzhan and the former coach, Houston Nutt, did not see eye to eye on their offensive philosophy so left. Malzhan spent one season as the OC at Tulsa before moving on to the same position at auburn. IMO, leaving a big D I school for a smaller D I school is not the best move in the world but considering it is back in his home state I understand the move. The bottom line is that is does not always have to be about money. College coach's are paid very well and he was making outstanding money at auburn so, it could be about moving closer to home or being happy. At least at Arkansas State, if the norm holds true, football does not have high expectations. Yes, I know this year was the exception.

Rhett Lashlee announced as Arky State OC--dammit

I keep hearing Greg Davis--that would be huge. The guy can obviously recruit. I just don't want to lose our whole O staff, especially a month and a half before signing day...
