How long does CNS leave Mac in the game this week before putting Tualia in to get game reps? I realize this is a question that would cause CNS to blow a gasket at a news conference but the fact remains that if something happens to Mac.... let's don't even go there. The Tide has been hit hard by injury this year.

Basic guess would be the entire second half should be Tualia's. While Mac needs as much PT as he can get, he will get the bulk of the reps this week and next. Got to give Little T some time on the field as well.

I have read that WC runs an option based offense and we've seen that from these next to last opponents most every year. They have given us problems and used up time on the clock in doing so. Mack and the offense need to out quick and make their (WC) azz quit. People tend to get hurt when you're not mentally(fully) into a game. With that sad we have Taulia at 4 games played (I believe that is correct) so does Nick play him and forget the redshirt thing?

You're correct, he's played 4. Duke, Southern Miss, Arkansas, and Mississippi State. Gotta have a backup ready.

Mac plays most of 4 quarters I would guess. He needs all the experience he can get. I would like to see them work up another short playlist for Bolden or Tualia that is more QB read option or something like that JIC. Might be good redzone help...

ā€œWith him being now the backup quarterback, we thought that we needed to play him because if something happens to this quarterback, Mac Jones, he’s going to be the guy that’s gotta go in the game and try to win the game for us,ā€ Saban said on ā€œHey Coach & The Nick Saban Show.ā€

ā€œWe’re going to play (Taulia) this week … regardless (of) how the game goes. … (Tua’s season-ending injury) kind of negated the opportunity to be able to redshirt Taulia,ā€ he added.

Dang... Is the Western Carolina 2nd half worth this?! Bummer to waste a whole year at this point

Mac can get job done.... i hope....but T is more explosive and dynamic a QB...
Getting T playing time....is so important...
We fall 2+ scores down at AU....look for T to come in to make it happen...
Mac is a better passer. If our guys are getting open, he is a better choice for this game. quick passes and pick on their secondary which is the best place to pick on them. They will make it difficult for Bama to run the ball.

Alabama no longer plans to redshirt Taulia Tagovailoa

There will be a Tagovailoa playing quarterback on Saturday for Alabama.

With Tua Tagovailoa out for the rest of the season, the Crimson Tide’s plan has changed for Tua’s little brother, freshman quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa.

Alabama had been planning to redshirt Taulia. Not anymore.

Taulia is the team’s new backup quarterback and he’s set to get some playing time against Western Carolina this weekend.

ā€œWe’re gonna play him this week in this game some kind of way regardless of how the game goes to try to get him some experience, some playing time and hopefully some confidence,ā€ head coach Nick Saban said. ā€œWhen we had the unfortunate injury last week to Tua, that kind of negated the opportunity to be able tor redshirt to Taulia.ā€

Taulia played in four games as the third quarterback behind his brother and Mac Jones and enters this weekend 7 for 9 for 65 yards.

His most extensive playing time of the year came late in Alabama’s win over Arkansas Oct. 26, when the former four-star recruit completed 6 of 8 passes for 45 yards.

He’ll probably get more opportunities to throw on Saturday, though.

ā€œWith him being now the backup quarterback, we thought we needed to play him," Saban said, ā€œbecause if something happens to this quarterback, Mac Jones, he’s going to be the guy that’s got to go in the game and try to win the game for us.ā€

Tualia is going to either be the QB next year or he's going to transfer. If MAC wins the job, I don't see him sitting... but who knows. If he loses the starting job he can RS next year...

My thoughts are this. You're not keeping him 5 years if he wins the starting job nor if he loses the starting job... so the RedShirt really means nothing at this point.

Logical points... For sure.

My response would be - what does playing a half or quarter, throwing 5-7 passes in a blowout against Western Carolina mean? Is it worth a year?

And if you see him leaving next year if/when Mac Jones wins the job - Wouldn't it be more valuable for Tyson to get reps? He still has games left before the RS...
