I know when he was at FSU and Auburn, you were none too happy with some of his tactics the way he recruited against us. If memory serves me correct, Craig was the big reason why Winston chose FSU.
I wasn't real happy with the way he recruited Winston. When it comes to the three years at Auburn, I can't think of a situation where Bama and Auburn were head to head for a signature and the Tide missed out. Outside of Wintson, the only player I can think of is Chris Casher (FSU) and he didn't visit Tuscaloosa as I recall.
Craig played a "race angle" with Winston--specifically, Winston's father. It wasn't a point of FSU having more to offer than the Tide, it was Craig pointing to black QB's who've started for the Tide while telling his father he'd get a more fair shake at FSU.
In recruiting, I'd rather see coaches talk about how the Tide excels. I don't like the idea of a coach telling kids what's wrong with other programs. Make sense? I know people are recruiting against Auburn with the pitch of how secure Gus is right now in his position. Personally, I don't care for that approach.
Something to keep in mind here. We've talked about rule changes including the early signing period proposal. Seldom mentioned is the addition of a 10th assistant which a lot want to use primarily for recruiting purposes.
One other thing to keep in mind. If I'm not mistaken the title of "recruiting coordinator" hasn't been assigned to a staff member in a few years. I know last year there wasn't one, although Jody Wright probably served in that capacity (without the title.) It wouldn't shock me to see that title be part of a job offer.
