Batteries are the real safety issue. What kind? LI could short out and melt or burst into flames
We haven't seen a case of that in the NFL who have been using electronic communication systems in helmets for years. The equipment the players wear in practice to measure speed and other things are battery powered.

That is good. I must confess that I am inadvertently ignorant of the goings on in the league.

I'm surprised you don't know about this. The technology may be older than you are.

Paul Brown (yes, that Paul Brown,) in the mid-50's, was part of the group of three who invented helmet communication. It was banned for awhile and then the NFL made it a permanent "fixture" in the game in the first half of the 90's.

The players I referred to earlier weren't NFL players; I was talking about Alabama, specifically. I'm guessing you've seen discussion of the Catapult Systemā„¢ which UA has used for several years to track players.

All of these are battery powered devices used within the game.
