As Norm Peterson might say........ Milkbone underwear

Fans are a fickle group and they expect more. Coaching is a what have you done for me lately profession. They expect more than 8-10 wins, a clean program, and graduating players. They see Miles bring in Top 5 talent that is on par with the kids Saban and BAMA brings in, but then sees Miles under perform. Meanwhile, Saban has BAMA in contention yearly for championships.

Nick Saban sat down for his weekly radio show Thursday and discussed topics ranging from preparing to face Auburn in Saturday’s Iron Bowl to what his favorite Thanksgiving foods are. It was a largely calm radio show and lacked the controversy that often follows Nick Saban when there is a microphone in his face, but Saban did come to the defense of some of those coaches he’s been hearing are on the hot seat.

Saban has a lot of respect for LSU’s Les Miles and his dominance over Miles is one of the predominant factors that has placed Miles on the hot seat in Baton Rouge. While Saban didn’t mention Les Miles by name in his comments, Saban is human and he does pay attention to what is being said in the media so it’s only natural to draw the conclusion that Saban is referencing Miles in his comments.

Saban is also absolutely right, if a team such as LSU is going to get rid of a coach like Les Miles, they better have somebody better ready to go right away.

LSU coach Les Miles’ future doesn’t appear to be as the Tigers head coach in Baton Rouge.

The team is poised to fire him as soon as Sunday or Monday, Bruce Feldman reported Thursday during a pregame Fox Sports broadcast.

If the school fired Miles now, it would owe the coach somewhere between $11 and $15 million, depending on how you view his contract. It also would mean there are three open jobs in the SEC — Missouri, South Carolina and LSU.

Just three weeks ago, the Tigers debuted at No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings. After three consecutive losses, LSU (7-3) faces Texas A&M with the potential to fall to .500 in the SEC this year, as low as sixth in the SEC West.

The offense continues to struggle, and a vocal segment of the fan base has been calling for change since the team finished 8-5 last season and lost defensive coordinator John Chavis.

Nothing has been made official yet, but it appears change is in the air in Baton Rouge.

I really think LSU will regret this. Other than Saban he is the best coach they have had in a long, long time and I am not sure there is really anyone out there who will turn it around quickly, especially with the probably financial issues the school is going to have with paying off Miles contract. Miles, on the other hand, will wind up somewhere else and do well there. Heck, I could see South Carolina jumping at the chance to have him there.

Funny how quickly things can happen. Three weeks. The guy is the toast of the town. Sitting at number two in the country and poised to swagger into the playoffs. Life was good. He was a good coach three weeks ago.

Kirby Smart may be the hotter name than Les Miles...now (like @TheChief said, three weeks ago...). USCe would be making a better hire in snagging Miles. Miles would clean up in the SEC East.

The LSU Logo @LSU_Logo
LSU would not let Les go unless they have a replacement locked up. I'm confident that's Jimbo Fisher.

What a cluster.

A couple of thoughts this morning.

That tweet from LSU_Logo ... if I recall correctly, the LSU staff felt like they had two guys "locked up" before hiring Miles. Worked out in the end ... but that "locked up" phrase in coaching searches?!?!? Eesshh.

So, we've got a group of people at an event that listened to Les talk and at least a portion of them got confused on what he said. Getting confused on what Miles has said is breaking news? It's a bit ironic, yah?

Matt ... you say it's a cluster. Should that be a shock considering one of the major players, AD Alleva, was in the middle of the Duke case several years ago?

*** Can't take credit for this but did find it funny. ***

Assuming LSU does need a new coach next week, should "The Hatter" be replaced by a Fedora.
