I think he keeps it but starts out next season on a scorching seat. LSU is in dire straits financially.

LSU's Possible 'Bankruptcy': The Bell Tolls for Louisiana Higher Education

His buyout is 15 Mil, hard to justify it right now. Also, so many other jobs open, all competing for whatever talent is available.

He should have a win next week. Their offense will work great against aTm. Fournette should go for 200+ again, too late for him to get back in the Heisman race.

The talking heads keep talking about Fischer going to LSWho. Really? Am I missing something, but why in the HELL would Jimbo go and do that? They might want to go after some Little XII school HC, but I don't see leaving Free Shoes University for the Bayou.

:bamadance:

The buyout is the big consideration. Can they afford it? He's lost a shot at the NC. His RB lost a shot at the Heisman. He's lost three in a row to conference rivals. He's lost five in a row to their top rival. Why wouldn't they keep him?

He wouldn't. They're delusional. He does have ties to LSU obviously. But, I think he'd be crazy to give up FSU with all the Florida recruits and the added benny of beating up on the ACC. If he comes to the SEC he has to complete with Saban and would be exposed as the mediocre coach that he is.

A few things to weigh in here ...

Fisher is going through a pretty messy, and public divorce. Separating yourself from that kind of personal drama and pressure as a coach isn't unheard of: see Tommy Tuberville as one example.

For several years there's been stories about how Fisher and the PTB's at FSU don't see eye to eye. After you read the third and fourth story you start seeing a pattern leading one to believe there's some truth there.

Recruiting has nothing to do with a move from Tallahassee to Baton Rouge. Louisiana is talent rich; extremely.

I did see a report at work the other day mentioning there was a suit, injunction, motion ... something like that about an upcoming TV report about rape on campus and Winston is mentioned (may be his agent suing, can't recall.) Is he about to be exposed in a bad light? Is FSU and he (Fisher) wants to separate himself?

NOW...here's what might make you pause.

His agent is Jimmy Sexton ... so we have a client of Sexton's whose name is being associated with a job. Imagine that.

interesting take. So perhaps Jimbo is willing; but can LSU afford Les' buyout?

While the public school/educational side of LSU is in dire straits, any idea how much money they (Athletic Dept.) has in their reserves? I don't. I do know this ...

LSU isn't making as much money as Bama, but they are still making a lot of money. I know it was over 10 million in profit last fiscal year.
LSU's athletic department is, and has been for awhile, self-sustaining. Bama's can't claim that.
Their athletic department has been giving back to the academic side of the school annually.
TAF is no joke when it comes to financial matters. Tigerfans aren't either when it comes to their fandom, emotions, and occasional knee-jerk reactions. Combine those two and that 15 million ... after thought.

What's interesting to me is LSU is currently paying Miles 4.3 million per year. I look at Florida and see Coach Mac's contract started at just under 4 million. IF LSU were to hire Fisher, who is currently making 5.1 million, are they going to have to come in with an offer in the 5.5-6 million range? Are they willing to go "Saban money" and hit the seven's?

All good points. I don't know the amount they have in their reserves. But, the fact that they ARE doing so well raises a 'bird in the hand' type of scenario IMO. Why risk the financial success by rolling the dice on anyone at this point? It's not like they have a losing record. And while losing 5 in a row to Bama will get you fired at Auburn, I'm not sure that's the biggest concern for the decision makers at LSU. I could be wrong, but I suspect they take a breath after the season and re-examine their coffers before deciding to keep him. Heads will roll and new hires will be made; but I think CLM stays.

I think that 5 losses in a row to Saban really have the PTBs asses chapped. I could see these boosters coming up with the green to send Les packing.
As for Jimbo, I could see him leaving F$U due to his issues with the divorce and with the upcoming exposé on rape on college campuses. Winston has told CNN that he intends to sue if they run the piece. I imagine this wouldn't shed a nice light on Jimbo either. His issues with the president and other university powers have been well documented as well.
It would be interesting to see if the LSwho boosters can scrounge up the $17 million to get rid of Miles and Co., can they dig deep and find enough for Jimbo?

Still hold true?

We'll see. But (money) > (butthurt over losing to Saban) IMO

I think the new/young LSU fans might hate Saban. But those who control the purse strings maybe not so much; more like envy.

Now, if they stop selling tickets or interest for the program starts to fall off in a big way then maybe they fire CLM.
But many of these same fans have been pulling for the Saints for decades. I remember when I lived down in New Orleans the Saints sucked but the fans kept filling the stadiums - albeit with bags over their heads (the 'aints). Don't underestimate their ability to accept mediocrity. :)

Doesn't Miles have clauses in his contract where the assistant coaches have to be bought out as well? Seems like I heard this on sports talk radio some time back and thought that was a stand-up gesture of him. If that's indeed the case, the price tag could get even higher.

I think it was said before that Les' buyout is $15 million and the buyout for his assistants is roughly $2 million.

When you add in the staff (who is also likely gone with the firing of the HC) you are looking at closer to 17 million in the buyout.

To add to that, some of that is taxpayer money... not all from boosters/alumni.

I would highly disagree with firing Les Miles if I were a fan/person with power. He's probably the 3rd or 4th best coach in the conference, and I'm not sure you fire that for an "up and comer". Of Jimbo wants to come, then yeah I'd probably make the switch, but not unless you absolutely have the successor ready to go.

Also, he's pretty damn entertaining.

Why are you saying that? An assumption, or something you've seen someone break down in detail?

Based on their financial history I believe they can be that liquid IF they had to pay a lump sum: don't know that they do.

If they haven't been getting into tax payers money, they've been making money ... I just don't see what leads people to think the Athletic Dept., and TAF, can't come up with that money.
