🏈 Looking ahead at Arkansas: Here's a breakdown (as in serious football talk) of their running game..

No pig fight...

Just don't care to see someone make a fool of themselves while "representing" my university on a rival's website. As a fan, I believe Arkansas can win. But when the numbers are compared, I can't argue with the fact that Alabama should win.

The OP's right on the money with my biggest concern...Arkansas has yet to show any signs of life in the running game and I don't see this as the week we establish one. That leaves the offense as one-demensional and that isn't a good place to be.

Just kidding around - You're right about the running game. The inability to ice the GA game with 14 point lead in the fourth almost cost you the victory. I believe your three fourth quarter possessions ahead of the winning drive together netted a minus 13 yards and burned just over five minutes of clock. A short, controlled passing game would've burned more clock and stood a better chance of flipping the field on the dawgs than running it.

RTR,

Tim

Hey Hogfan4ever,

Your posts belong in the smack talking forum...

This forum is used for intelligent, real football conversations based on facts. Nothing wrong with some good smack talking with the opponent, but come on..."all things that glisten aint gold" WTH does this mean?!?!?

No need to come over to this board and act stupid. Throw some facts out to back up your position.
Once you raise your head up and stop kissing Bama message board butt my argument and opinions are mine and when i gave facts you didn't read them suffice to say read more post less

Oh I get it now...I'm so sorry I had you all wrong. By all means, post away with your football knowledge. Either you aren't old enough to go to college or you were never smart enough. Let's hear more good stuff from your bag of wisdom troll.

I've spent the better part of the night watching film from the last 2 Arky games....

I've come to the following conclutions.

On O
1. Hogs have no run game due to a piss poor O line.
Thier center is fat, lazy and stupid. When he should be picking up blocks he just stands there
looking like he has no idea where he is or what he is doing. (Kinda like a barner looking @ an escalator)
Over all thier blocking schemes arent 1/2 bad...but they more often than not leave a huge hole that i promise you will get exploited
by Hightower come Sat.
2. Their Left Tackle is pretty stout...and damn good. But he lacks the speed he'll need to stop Marcell or Donte
on a consistant basis. Our SPEED on pass rush will wear the guy out.
3. Thier recivers run a lot of crossing routes across the middle when they go 4 wide or 3 & TE.
This will get them burned quickly. Becuse if i can see it....you can damn sure bet our coaches see it.
Mark Barron will get plenty of chances to create turnovers.

On D
Thier going to be in for a looooong day.
1. While the controled the line of scrimage pretty good against UGA....
this ain't UGA comming to town. They better learn to run gap better if they hope to
Stop 22 & 3 from tearing a new hole in ther ass. Thier LB's will come up to help
cover the gaps....but with the Quality backs we have will be unlike anything they've seen
all year. They will try and load the box. And when they do....

Look for Julio, Maze and Hanks to have explosive plays. Thier secondary will be out matched.
They play soft and don't jame up recivers very well comming off the line. And as fast as Maze is...if their
DB's don't do a good job jamming him up @ the line....he'll rip them a new one.

Thier pass rush is IMO not bad either. I expect them to get to Greg @ least once.
But keeping in mind that Greg is much more mobile than mallet...that is what will be the diferance in passing efficancy.
While Mallet has the balls to stay in the pocket...& Actually take the hits...this will lead to sacks or near sacks becaase of the speed of our pass rush.
Greg can scramble & play action his way out of trouble a lot more than Mallet can. That will be a big factor in this game.

Pretty much says it all.
The only thing that got left out was...PENALTIES. Arky had 10. That alone could give us enough of an advantage to beat them, were both teams equal.
But they're not, are they?

I agree that our O-line is struggling with run blocking, but I attribute most of that to the fact that the center and right guard are freshmen. Certainly not making excuses, just saying that the center is green instead of lazy & stupid. I'm puzzled as to why CBP hasn't put more into the run game since he says it's an important part of his offense. I have been impressed with Mallett's pocket presence this year, but he still has a tendency to let his emotions dictate his decisions/throws. He must keep a cool head in order to be effective.

On D, no way Ark shuts down the Bama duo...those guys will get their yards(on any team), so what has to happen for Ark is to make them earn the yards and not continuously get gashed for big chunks. As for pressure, that has been ok this year and has to continue Saturday otherwise the DB's will end up giving up big plays. The group of DB's is improved from last year, but still an area of concern IMO.

Your basically describing a vanilla offense if i remember Coach Petrino said the first 3 weeks he would run one. You guys have no idea whats coming you have no pass rush I just wondering how you exploit our weak and lazy offensive with no pass rush oh I get it Saturday Mt Cody ,McClain, and the other 7 starters from last year will magically appear. FYI Arkansas leads the SEC in sacks you should worry about your offensive line. 1 more thing you guys struggled stopping a freshman from connecting on crossing route and slants plus their receivers drop a lot of balls. Take off the Alabama colored eyeglasses

That's a compelling, well crafted response. I agree. I cannot take issue with your logic any more than I can your grammar. I think we lose, you score 31 and hold us to ten points, just like you said. You'll score just as many as you did against Georgia, and it means nothing that you gave up 24 to a freshman QB with an anemic running game.

You forgot to mention Georgia being without their top offensive threat. Come to think of it, did Georgia register a touchdown against South Carolina?

With Mallet do you really need a running game??? If we can't put pressure on him, and our DB's can't cover then the run won't be necessary. I know, I know. I'm just assuming both things will happen for argument's sake. Oh gosh, I hope and pray that won't be the case. Those two aspects worry me the most.

Two things that give me hope. UGA's lack of running game and a freshman QB put up enough points to win or at least go to OT. UGA has no one like Ingram or Richardson. UGA playing without its best player and again a freshman QB was in a position to win. Also UGA has a brand new defensive scheme and a new DC, yet they held their own for much of the day. The one guy that missed the tackle at the very end....he makes the tackle and we potentially have a different scenario. I don't know how many timeouts Arkansas had at that point and Mallet may have ended up throwing a TD later, but again a lot could have been different had the tackle been made.

UGA's running game didn't do anything day don't be deceived. I give Georgia credit they made a run late in the game at that point they were a very desperate team if there is any cause for concern for Bama it's the lack of pass rush that was a one of the reason the 08-09 teams were dominate. I just didn't see one in the Penn State and Duke games. You give Mallett all day to throw and he will pick you apart. No matter how much talent you recruit or how much talent you have replacing 9 starters is a tall task, especially when your two cover corner can man up the other teams receivers. You lose Mt Cody ,Rolando McClain, Javier Arenas, and Kareem Jackson (hope I'm Right about this) that was a dynamic team. The reason why Marcel Dareus was so successful last year sacking the QB was because Mt Cody commanded a double team which freed up Dareus. On Saturday you will see how big of an impact those guys not being there will have. Arkansas defense was absolutely horrendous last year but if you ask me this question 3 games into the the season, Which team is rank 1st in the SEC in sacks and 10th nationally in total defense, how many of you would say that it's Arkansas. Think about that for a second.

You didn't see one because we didn't apply one. Also, you played Tennessee Tech, Louisiana Monroe, and an unranked Georgia team with a first year stater at QB who is already missing his biggest weapon. There would be something severely wrong if you weren't hovering near the top of the SEC in defense against those opponents. This Saturday you'll see why you shouldn't put so much faith in misleading numbers.

I know. That's why I said UGA's lack of running game gives me hope. They had no run game vs. Arkansas at all yet hung with you guys. We will most definitely have a running game come Sat. Be it Mark Ingram or Trent Richardson or both.

You are aware Dareus didn't play in the 1st two games of the season, right?
