🏈 Lewis and Miller...

Seems to me against the barn, our ILBs are going to be most important in the way we set up our defense. It's really Wilson and Hamilton that will be missed the most, in that one. I'm Just hoping that Dylan Moses goes into super-frosh mode down on the Plains. I'm sure defending Georgia will require us to stay mostly in our base. Getting our outside guys back for that one would be super nice.

Crutches & cast might still be more effective than 42. :eyeroll:

That's not fair to Holcombe.

Tony Brown has speed but isn't disciplined in his assignments. Holecombe isn't as fast as those that were ahead of him, but his is very disciplined with his assignments. And, you have to weigh his health in each and every day.

Which would you rather have? Correct gap assignment and allowing three or four yards or missing that gap and it goes for 50?

He's been repping with the 1's this week. We'll see him a lot.

Wasn't Keith Holcombe on the field when LSU broke the long run? And I'm not giving up on Holcombe, but you just said it, his health is already a week by week liability. If the light goes on for Moses, I would still expect to see Keith. But it stands to reason the larger the role coach Saban can trust Dylan with, the better Bama's defense will be.

With all due respect, Terry, it appeared to me that Holcombe wasn't just slow last week, he was out of position - and had other players out of position - numerous times. It was actually pretty bad at times. I simply hope we can work out a solution that minimizes our reliance on him. He is far better when he doesn't have to carry that much of the load.

Yeah, seemed like there were a number of runs in the Miss State game where their RB or QB would just get through our line and our D linemen would end up holding on to the ball carrier as they went through a hole and no support or little support from the LB corps. If D linemen hadn't held on to the guy, big plays would have ensued. Not sure who was missing assignments but the LBs didn't seem to be in there to help make the stop. Our D line didn't have the greatest game, short on LBs or not. They were getting pushed around and not getting any pressure on the QB.

Saw a stat on here that we have 1 LB sack since the FSU game. 1 LB sack in 9 games. That's just not normal Bama football. We've got to get some OLB play as well. The lack of pressure seemed to allow the QB to be relaxed when using the run/keep pass option. Ends up costing you. But give our boys credit, in LSU game and Miss State game, they made stops when needed most. Rose to the occasion.

I don't know. I'd have to watch the replay. That said, as I recall, it wasn't his blown assignment. Pull the play by play and give me a time...I'll snag the video and we'll look at the play.

We'll have two different opinions on this with one caveat: Saban said the same thing I did earlier this week.

Funny thing about saying "other players out of position" is Saban saying he's as good of a play caller as SDH.

Now, losing SHD is a blow depth wise, no doubt. Funny thing about critiquing Keith ... do you happen to know which player on defense has a really bad missed tackle percentage?

My intention is not to pile on 42. Hopefully last Saturday was not his night and he plays lights out vs Barn. I tried to find video that isolated just State 3 TDs but could only find them in this longer game highlight. If you pay careful attention to 42 & 2 on this, it's not very pretty.

Lewis and Miller I believe but I dont think for a second that Mack Wilson is playing this year let alone Auburn. He probably isn't even walking in a boot yet.

*EDIT*
Dude is still on crutches and in a cast...

I spoke to Mack this morning. Everything he said leads me to stand by my statement. He, Miller, and Lewis will be a three man wrecking crew against AU. Roll Tide!

One thing we should agree on is that #42s mauling of the guy on the Hail Mary, at least Hail Mary #1, in the State game was bad.

Realize this thread is about LB's, but you guys realize we could lose our entire starting back-end after this year? Averett, Wallace, Brown, Hootie, and no doubt Minkah and Ronnie will leave. Combined that with SDH and Evans in the middle. Hand will be gone as well, but hopefully Payne hangs around to team up with Buggs, Davis and company. We're going to need some young guys to really step up back there during the spring/summer. Diggs, Thompson and some guys that we haven't seen much of. Big shoes to fill.

If you're right, I will HAPPILY be wrong. He literally just got into a boot last week, though. I just dont see how you go from having to wear a cast to being one week in a boot and suddenly you're playing again. But like I said, I'll be happy to be wrong.

Nothing short of a total misdiagnosis of a break would have Mack Wilson ready by the Iron Bowl. I'm not buying that one.
