🏈 Let's Talk about Ty Simpson

Ty was changing play at the LOS at almost every snap. He's turning into a True field general for Alabama. He was constantly spending lot of time making changes with RBs, WRs and changing protections for OL. The fact the coaches trust him so much to do the pre-snap calls is quite incredible. Mac Jones is one I can think of that was really good at this. Guys, enjoy this. What he did against Georgia, especially on 3rd downs, How many QBs you can say in SEC that can do this especially against Georgia?

100%. He's doing an amazing job and looked like a Championship quarterback last night.

The young man has made tremendous strides this season in his first year as a starter. I am really impressed with him so far. Two things I do see that needs some work: 1. He throws a very hard ball just about always. 2. He gets happy feet in the pocket a little too early.

Not even October yet and he's worked himself into being a current top 3 SEC quarterback. He's so smooth on play action and finds the right guy. Superb pocket presence. Understands the system front and back... And 1/3 through the season he's at 1138 passing yards (69.3% comp rate), 11 TD's, and 0 INT's. That puts him on pace for about 3400 passing yards in the regular season (with 33 TD's).

One thing I notice was his eyes.

13 of 19 in 3rd down conversions tells you so much about the Simpson, especially considering the run game wasn't making the conversions.

SIDE NOTE: 111 yards from 38 attemps at running the football. As sour as that might be, it shows how much this team is committed to running anyway. And it set up the huge 3rd down coversion to seal the game after the playaction play (the defense totally bought it). I wonder..... how many times Simpson changed the play to the run? To be a fly on the wall in the QB room today....

Simpson was delivering. Think we've all said that the biggest challenge was to just give him time. If he has protection, he can deliver. Also think we need to give a ton of love to Grubbs. Those preshifts were something Deboer and Grubbs did a TON at Washington, and it made their offense incredibly difficult to defend. Starting to see more of it implemented last night.

Run play calling could improve imo

Simpson was throwing darts for sure. Kriby mentioned Simpsons knowledge of pass blocking and where the pressure would be coming from so he got the ball out early when he knew there were #s issues (unblocked pass rushers). This bodes well for continued success. I also thought Grub called a great game. Just wish we would have had more success in the 2nd half. By succes I mean scored some points.

Seems to me he is shuffling his feet a lot. It’s ok because Payton Manning did it and look how he turned out. Maybe it’s just me, it’s certainly not meant as a negative.
Homer Smith taught us to keep our feet moving as we made our reads. Think prep step when playing the infield on each pitch. It helps get and keep you in rhythm.
