I don't watch Gameday nearly as much as I did years ago, though the ending with the headgear picks each week has been appointment viewing to this day. I'm going to really miss Corso. A one of a kind, a true national treasure. What a career...

Gonna miss him! Been a helluva run like Desmond said.
I recall running into him on Bourbon Street the night before the ‘92 title game against Miami. He had let it be known he thought Miami would win it. I yelled at him, “Hey Corso, who ya got?” He replied, “Take Bama and the points!” As we all know, Bama beat the dogshit out of the Hurricanes!!!

I enjoyed the documentary ESPN did on him this morning and his journey through the years on the network. Very moving and worth the watch, especially the last 5-10 minutes. Thank you Mr. Corso for making it a fun ride.

Never was much of a Corso fan, but he has been a part of my life for most of my life almost every Saturday morning. The way he embodies the history of college football and holds it so close to his core is what I respect most about him. As times have changed, he did not let that change him and there's a lot to respect about that. His headgear selections are legendary and will always remain a piece of college football for years to come until our kids have come and gone as they grew up with that on their tv's as well. Enjoy your time, Coach.

Ahhh helllllll........ I knew this day was coming. For the last few years or so I couldn't watch him because he couldn't be the Corso that had all the quips & jeering that I'd come to love & hate at the same time. . . . .

For me, my framing of the college football experience involved Corso poor mouthing 'Bama "They've got no chance" against the mighty Hurricanes. The anxiety leading up that game & flashes of despair as the entire GameDay panel (him & Craig James) picked Miami. Then for 'Bama to beat their ass...... That moment in time, my 'Bama fandom would be forever tied to that SOB (in an endearing manor). This is a man that deserves the peace that a hard working life affords.

I personally have never understood the fixation on his performance and personality. I could understand it if he was somehow integral to the popularization of the sport, but that’s clearly not the case. The sport never needed him and frankly neither did Gameday. Not being critical of the guy, but I’m just pushing back on the excessive veneration.

I’ll go a step further. Of all the personalities worthy of crediting, Kirk is most deserving. Fowler and Rece are both great, but Kirk has long been the MVP of the group.

Forgot about him! He was what was needed to capture the older demographic less likely to watch TV. I believe Kirk was the perfect addition to bring along the next generation. Pat, evidently, was brought in for the next generation of viewers.

I agree. Although I didn’t claim he wasn’t synonymous. I just think he wasn’t needed or integral to the show. Heck Desmond has been nonessential too. The only guys who ever provided quality contributions IMO were Fowler, Rece, and Kirk. I would have kept David Pollack, Booger, and Marcus Spears over Desmond and Corso.

Considering the media and their medium at the time he was far ahead of his. I listened to him on Saturday mornings. He was hard to understand—southern kid listening to Beano...what ya expect?—but that difficulty made me listen that more closely. And yes, he is what drew me to GameDay.

Much like Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann were great as a pair and then went two different directions Tim Brando was great with Beano Cook. As time went on, like Keith, Tim started wearing his emotions.

Agreed. Their "choices" for some of the other positions are questionable, at best.

I agree with you about Desmond. I don't agree with who else you would have taken instead though, ha ha. Rece, Fowler, and Kirk for sure. Add Saban and McAfee and that'd be fun.
