📝 Ledbetter Seems to be Wavering

As any college football fan that follows recruiting closely knows, a commitment really doesn’t mean anything until signing day—even if you root for a powerhouse Alabama. Four star defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter committed to Alabama in January, but his pledge seems anything but solid after a recent visit to Auburn.
“What is not to love about Auburn?” Ledbetter said. “Playing time – I will get it. Coaching staff — amazing. Really high-qualified guys — more than qualified to coach. What they did last year, from what they did the year before, stepping above and beyond, was amazing. The personalities of the coaches and the nice hometown makes Auburn a really great place to be.”
Playing time sounds like the main issue, based on the full article on 247Sports. Despite his current commitment to Alabama, and his comments on Auburn, all seven of the sites “crystal ball” predictions have Ledbetter heading to Georgia.
Recruiting isn’t easy, not even for a program that has dominated the sport like Alabama.

While I don't blame Any player for wanting playing time, duh, it sure seems like a lot of these guys want to take the short easy route instead of coming in and competing. If you're as good as you think you are, come on in and test that theory, if not, head elsewhere where that type of mentality is accepted. Hoping he stays committed, but I won't cry or be mad if he chooses elsewhere.

I'm shaking my head at UGA—can it be called anything BUT desperation?

I'm sure you've seen they've offered his brother a football scholly. As you probably know as well, his mom has said she would like to see both her sons at the same school. Not a big deal in most situations, right?

Then there's this...his brother has been playing in JUCO the last two years—for the BASKETBALL team. He hasn't played football for two years...and their offering him a scholly?!?!

Pretty sad you gotta offer his brother, who didn't even have any major offers (no disrespect), a scholarship in order to entice the you get brother to come. They did the exact same thing to Alec Ogletree and to his brother Zander in order to get him on campus. It's obviously legal, but just shows you don't have what it takes to elicit the top talent without some trikeration. Tennessee did it to Da'arick Rodgers too by giving his high school quarterback a ride, whom by the way didn't even make it one season before transferring out. We know how Rodgers faired as well.

We can look back at Keenan Allen as well. A long time commit that suddenly wanted to play with his QB brother. He wanted a package deal. Saban didn't bite and Allen bailed and went to Cal when they offered he and his brother. Brother was a 50% passer tops and look what happened to Jeff Tedford and Cal. Tedford got fired and Cal sucked hind tit because of it.
